KR Travelogue Day 3a: Mission Is Possible

What time is it? The hotel clock says it’s 4AM. That would be 3 AM in the Phils. I’ve been waking up at this time for 2 nights now as if something beckons. I buried myself under the duvet and went back to sleep.

2 hours later, I’m already getting ready for my Day 2 Training. After much contemplation, it hit me in the tub just how exaggeratedly I took the advices of my workmates. Hello? Put on 3 socks in your boots and apply petroleum jelly first, buy a thermal wear and all. Goodness!! It’s not like I’ll be out all the time neither do the buildings have the same freezing temperature as outside for you to be covered all the time! I mean, what are the air-conditioners for?? Heck, I could even sport this look below and just put on my black trench coat and gloves outside. How I miss that wedge and all of my sandals and flats I left back home. Now I’m stuck with these boots on!

In my defense though, I took the advices seriously ‘coz I wanna enjoy this trip to the fullest! That is, with snow anticipation. =P All I know is that I get cold easily I can’t even sleep at nights without a blanket on. My boss who came here a week before this training informed me that the temperature has dropped to 0°C before he left. What to expect?? And again, let’s not forget, “First time” excuse will always be valid.

Hence, it’s signed and sealed. With 5°C shivering cold outside, I’m going to chuck my thermal. LOL! And today is better day coz the boots match the coat. With black trousers on, I went for my shiny black tote.

Down at the bar, I’m impressed that Dien is early and is already dining with Lawrence in a table. Hehehe. Some of the class is already around and what better way to start my breakfast but with a nice appetizer. With that I didn’t mean the croissants, pancakes or whatever pastries that are served in the counter but rather – US guy and his taut muscles. Yummy! Hahaha!

I went ahead in the bus to sureseat on the same place as yesterday while Dien took the ones in front. Lawrence, arriving at last, has got me alarmed as to who will he choose between us. He sat beside Dien. Hmmp! Fine! Feigning pride, I thought “Good thing you didn’t sit here ‘coz this is meant for someone who’s interested in me.” Just by any remote chance, I’m hoping it would be US guy. Delegates arrived one by one and the seat is still empty until finally, the organizer – who I recognized was the one who praised me yesterday – counted us complete and signaled the driver to go. The bus left with me seated beside myself. =(

“Why? Why won’t they talk to me? Am I not friendly enough?” I though melodramatically as I hear chatters within the bus. After a few seconds of morosing, a flash bulb moment occurred. But of course! Of course they wouldn’t talk to me. Who would like to mingle with a nerdy girl, Ms Know-It-All? (Lame, haha, but that’s really what I thought.) A brilliant plan popped into my head, full-blown. I’m going to lie low in the training, get friendly and approach everybody if possible just to correct their notion about me. Very doable! When I dropped off the bus, I’m more than excited to start on my new mission. Haha!

On the way up, I benchmarked with Lawrence if he brought his phone. Same as mine, he didn’t. We were instructed yesterday to leave it for security purposes. But the others did! Poor blog, no pics fort he 2nd day. =(

Inside the classroom, time to remove the coats. I noticed Brazil, an aisle between us, is wearing another leather, I say leather, coat. My curiosity has been sparked as to how heavy her suitcase is. Must be really heavy. At first I balked on removing my coat. Aside from the fact that I’m baring my arms – which you know isn’t really that shapely- in the class, I know that the top is wickedly body-hugging. But rather having me sweating for hours like yesterday, might as well remove it. There! Today as part of the plan is a lie-low day on training. I wil just intently listen.

Breaktime! =) Perfect time to accomplish my mission. But not yet, not just yet. I’ve got to take care of some online transactions, particularly on my CC. Hihi. I already computed how much my hotel expenses would amount to and I’ve got to make sure I have leeway for you know, shopping! Haha. It would be a crime not to! Upon surfing, I saw US guy passed by the hallway and that’s it. I can’t take it anymore! I’ve got to let this out. No, not the one you release in the comfort room haha! I’ve got to tell someone just how hot US guy is. No YM here, so no choice. However inflectionless IM can be, I logged on to our company messenger and bingo! Tytana is online.

Tytana, as you all know, is my partner-in-crime in the office when it comes to boy-stalking. We alternately take the roles of perpetrator and abettor. Haha!! Though the former is most of the time, me. Hehe. (Gurl todo exposure na to, may bayad na. Haha!) I have to tell her about this Ga – and because calling him a god would be a blasphemy – let’s just refer to him as Adonis. Hehehe. As expected, she asked me to take pictures.

2nd break of the day, I brilliantly thought of props for my mission: the dogs. Hahaha! Lawrence has already started mingling around yesterday and I can’t do what he does: like approaching you upfront and strike a conversation. My method is an indirect one. While playing with the dogs, some of the delegates would come (mostly guys, the girls are too scared of the pups), give them my most winsome smile and presto! They’ll open up. It usually started with questions if I do have my pet at home blah blah blah. It was effective! Even the instructor yesterday – the one who praised me – was delighted talking to me. I even joked on him about taking with me one of the dogs home. Sadly though, US guy is nowhere to be found during breaks. In the comfort room, I met Brazil and Mexico – who always go together – and smiled at them. No conversations yet. But no need to hurry – there’s lots of time left. But so far, everything is going good. =)

A Walk Down Old School

Thanks to Multiply, I was reminded that last week was my Alma Mater’s Foundation Day. Even if they changed name already, I’m a proud Mapuan no matter what! Without no one in the office to go out with, I remembered I have a young friend studying there (whose Mom wants her to be like me, hence enrolled in the same school) to have a good chat with prior heading to my next agenda last Saturday.

There was once when going back to school seemed repellent due to the bitter memories it brings. But that was forever ago. I didn’t even think about it anymore when I decided to go. Besides, it’s a good substitute to duck my head into instead of going berserk on the ongoing sales in the mall.

Sporting my skinny jeans and new top with much aplomb , I texted Michelle that I’ll be an hour late in her 4-hr long break before I left. I don’t know what look I was going for but while waltzing through the walls of Intramuros, I took out the book from my bag and carried it in my left hand close to my chest just like the way I used to do when I was in college. Haha! It’s flattering to be mistaken as a student but reality steps in the moment you enter the guardhouse.

Since I lost my alumni card, I reasoned out faculty visit purpose upon handing them my ECE license ID. She was then calling the faculty to verify the instructor I told him and I swear it's annoying the life out of me. It’s foundation day for crying out loud! Good thing she was unable to contact. They didn’t let me in until I told them I’m an alumnus and asked for my student number.

“1999153104!” I said irritated. I'm amazed with my sharp memory. :) When finally exiting the guard house,

“Parang kilala kita ah!”

I turned to recognize one of the guards on the entrance and gave him a weak smile. It’s been eons ago since I last came here. This one has sure good memory! The initial motive to pass incognito here was changed by a feeling of warmth inside. After all, I spent almost 5 years here! It's a relief that he, being one of the nicest guards in the school, is still around. Unlike those two who (1) chased after me when I was wearing an open-heeled sandals and (2) that gruesome guard who took my ID for clipping it in my jeans’ pocket (back when ID weren’t automated yet). Of course it’s tacky to clip it in my shirt! And there went my two violations that had sent me reporting to OSA (Office of Student Affairs) – ruining my reputation! “All for a fashionable cause. Tsk!” – I thought to myself as I enter the bookstore to be refreshed.

Not a minute later, I exited and passed through the admin building trying to check if my pics are still there in their “Hall of Fame”. None. Of course, it was already replaced by recent topnotchers. Still walking, I met my instructor in Broadcasting but he turned away when I was about to greet him. Hey that’s an impolite way to treat a student who appreciated the subject!

Straight through is the North Building the ground floor of which is our org’s tambayan! There were a couple of students playing cards in the table. I attempted to come near but hesitated coz surely no one will remember me. Damn, I was the president of this org before! Admittedly though, we weren’t able to follow-up closely the improvements after graduating.

I settled myself in one of the pillars to check my phone for a message. As I sat (aaah, to be able to bend at the waist and sit), I took out the phone but there’s no message. That’s when I realized the very purpose of my novel, flipped it open and started wading through it. Occasionally, I jerk my head up to see the people passing by. Hmm, this one looks like a brother of my batchmate. Hmm, possible! When I saw a former workmate walking with an instructor seeming to approach my direction, I covered my face with the book. Hehe. I don’t know why but I just had this vague, free-floating suspicion that they would ask me
questions like (1) Hey, you’re too grand and busy why are you here? Or (2) Why in the world are you still alone??

Anyways, as I continue reading…..

“Uy KC! Bat andito ka?”

I really couldn’t escape this, could I? It’s John from Intel. We huddled for a short while to check on each other’s lives. I explained the reason I was there and asked him on the status of his part-time teaching. Then he and his MS classmates left.

“Uy sige. Pero grabe mas ok ka ngayon kesa dati nung nasa Intel.”

Hey, that was a compliment. Not bad for being discovered by a friend who used to see you everyday before.

On the verge of being stood up by my friend, I decided to roam the building just to check for some changes. A photocopying station is already set-up on the ground floor of North - that used to be in the West. In the 2nd floor, I passed by our laboratories and stopped by the wall to check the current officers of my other org, IECEP. Climbed up the stairs again, this now facing the faculty. All of a sudden, a bitter memory erupted from nowhere. It caught me off guard. Aw, shucks! At this very place, I was waiting for him here and he arrived with that beeeyaaa…banish, banish!

Whew! I scanned the NW rooms and they were empty. Hmm, foundation day shouldn’t be an excuse for the profs to dismiss their classes. Each day is crucial for a quarter system. I realized my thoughts are turning into that of a parent’s perspective – I shuddered.

Now going down the West building’s stairs along with some students engaged in boisterous talk while headed to the library. They look so young – so happy – so unaware of what they can only term as the real world.

Moving on, outside the cafeteria. I wonder if they’ve already fixed the exhaust system so the stinking smell inside doesn’t stick anymore on the shirts. Outside the audio visual room (the most beautiful part of the renovated Mapua during my time) were rows of chairs for queue. What’s that for? As far as I know, I only see those during our bloody enrollment days.

Ever present on the South parking lot are the concessionaires and back to the admin building where I passed by what I can only hope for as Mapuan cagers! Hehehe. All you need to confirm is their height and a notebook in one of their hands. Take it from someone who used to fancy those boys! ;)

In the quadrangle now, a band is playing resembling that of Sugarfree, I looked closer to see that it’s just one of the bands of the Music Society. On my way back to the pillar now when I finally received a text from Michelle who’s seated near the guardhouse. I tracked back my steps and found her there sitting very pretty.

After 45 mins, she went to her Humanities class just in time to meet my other friend/batchmate outside Biyo with her hubby AJ. Not before long when we’re talking, there stood infront of us someone doing a very familiar pose – arms folded, right knee pointed on tiptoe, raised eyebrow and pout-y face. “Ay si bakla!” Haha! Happy to meet one of my ka-pederasyon, hehe, I excused myself from the couple and approached him (or her?) for some how are yous. And another complement “Iba ka na ngayon, pwede ka ng sumali sa Miss Universe.” Kamusta naman yan?

Funny how I went to school to see how much has changed physically but ending up being complemented for looking good. It could be better coz of the new work or in the latter case having moved on from a dark lovelife. More than anything else, I think it’s the inner contentment and happiness that’s responsible for making me glow. Yay! Haha.

Back to Biyo, we filled each other with the latest gossips on someone: a batchmate. Haha! Then we headed to Manila Doctors to visit our friend who’s just undergone a cyst removal in the ovary.
Get Well Soon Xiela!

My outfit for the day:

Techie Techie Bang Bang

If you loved the SGH-I600, you'll love this even more. Featuring the newest SGH-I780: your slim Pocket PC specially designed for the techie savvy like me. Wait, does it sound like a voice-over in a Shop TV? Haha! All that's lacking is a "But wait, there's more! If you call now blah blah blah..." Hahaha!

SGH-I780

Seriously, I'm loving this phone. My favorite is the optical joystick on the center. I guess I have to replace my Armani phone for the meantime. I'm entitled to be fickle, after all I'm a girl. ;-) (Wil, don't push your luck. =P) Guess I also have to smarten up my corp attire just to match my new phone accessory. Hehehe.

And for a touch of some personalization, here's a message for you. :)

Love ya Guys! ;) XOXO!

KR Travelogue Day 2c: A Hearty Dinner

Could lunch be any exciting? I asked myself as we head back to our room from the production floor visit. Delegates from the same continent (India included) will dine together and will be guided by someone. I was just wondering why they have to make to group those from the same continent. I mean, practically know Dien and Lawrence already. Why not for a change, try only US and Phils? Hahaha!

From the door emerged a smiling Korean lady, dressed fine with her wool trench coat. Intimidated by the coat, I thought she must be just an admin. =P She then handed us these meal stubs that will be used for our lunch. Oh right, I remember we are in a factory.

Prior entering the cafeteria, we stopped by the door to choose from the available meals in the display. The system is there are 3 meals to choose from and each costs 3,000 KRW. As the guys kept on asking what each meal is, Miss Lunch Guide kept on using her phone for English translation. I just went with what Dien and Lawrence is having and the 2 Indians requested for a special meal to abide by their religious belief.

meals of the day
When we went inside, I was shocked with the mob dining inside mostly the factory workers in pink polo for female and brown for men, and this is already taking turns or shifts for the break. I wonder how many employees Samsung has got. As expected, there was Kimchi in each and every table. I wonder if they don’t get hemorrhoids for eating spicy food.

this is just left side of the cafeteria
I didn’t finish mine. The soup is nice and spicy but not really savory for me. Unlike the self-service back at Intel, the utensils need to be segregated after eating. These employees sure eat fast!

Monday meal
Miss Guide invited us to have a walk outside the building in which we willingly obliged. The weather here is nicer. Still cold but bearable. There’s a football area infront and we decided to walk around it through good conversation. And yes! There are a lot of fashionable women walking around. Uh-oh, can’t take pictures. U700 though 3M is not enough. And if it is, how do I approach the ladies and tell them its for my blog?? They might think I’m a psycho, haha!! And also, the English dude. After inching the four corners of the field, we scurried back to the building.

some view outside
*Dinner*

I wasn’t able to ask where we ate dinner. But Lawrence, Dien and I were accompanied as scheduled by our Korean counterparts who were assigned to our countries before: David and Ms. Lee (Phils) and Honey (Vietnam). I don’t know the name of the restaurant either (no translation) but we went straight to the special room with the lowered tables: Japanese/Korean style. There were grilling of course, noodles, kimchi and let us not forget, the drink. Let me introduce to you Korea’s national alcoholic drink: the bloody Soju! Haha!

David scooping the iced kimchi; the leafy whatever; while dining; iced noodles

the restau (does anyone know how to translate it? ;-)

Soju drink; open your mouth wide..haha! (pics not actual ones in Korea)

I tasted this before and as usual I didn’t like it. Good thing, they’re not that pushy in drinking. I’m not anticipating those leafy thing wrapping the grilled beef/pork plus add-on spices but when I tasted my first combination……….YUMMY!!! And surprisingly, the chopsticks! My chopsticks is working in my hands, haha!! Wow! I think I had an overdose of those leaf-beef-spice whatever and for once I didn’t care what I was putting on in my tummy. They’re leaves anyway and it will be very easy to digest.

David fetched a taxi for us back to the hotel as the 3 of them will be heading back to the office for work. Tsk! Toxic! Haha! Inside the taxi, I broached on Lawrence and Dien about visiting the sort of palace near the office but they don't feel like going out tonight. I think they drank too much Soju! Tsk! Around 8:30 PM when we reached back the hotel. In my room, I tried to change outfit and started fitting my quilted coat with only the stockings on. Haha! What do these Koreans take me for?? Of course I studied their fashion. I will go outside just to test if I can take the weather only in those, with or without company. Hmp! When I went out, I saw the China girls chatting outside their room. Well, next to Koreans I like their styles also. I felt small with what I was just wearing so I went back in. Hehe.

And so, I decided to fill my eyes with all these Korean shows on TV hoping to catch some familiar faces. There are a lot of shows available, most of which are funny ones. Sure enough I was able to catch Jenel (Princess Hour) in an eye product TVC as well as Vivian (Lovers in Paris) for a feminine napkin. :) Set the TV to sleep for 30 mins but closed my eyes not long after doing it. Zzzzz.

KR Travelogue Day 2b: Miss Smarty Pants

Aaaah…my favorite part: the ice-breaker. My worries for Dien (Vietnam) were eased by the thought that he’s just probably late. Weren’t they were always late in our last training? Maybe it’s the time difference excuse again. Anyways, I’ve loads of persons to meet. The introduction began from the other far end and that makes me fourth from the last. Good, they’re gonna recall my name better than the ones who started. I positioned myself to have a vantage view of the entire attendees. My peripheral vision started to register a few remarkable faces from the room as I earnestly listened to the speakers.

However, after the first few introductions my mind started arguing on its own if I should proceed with my well, speech. You see, I prepared a little statement for this. And it starts in something like this: “Anyong Aseo, KC Imnida.” I never meant to impress the Koreans. Rather, I just deemed it courteous to know some of their language prior visiting a country. All of a sudden, I noticed that it’s almost near my turn. I beamed at Lawrence before I shot out of my chair (I really don’t know what that’s for) and proceeded with my run-of-the-mill introduction.

After surveying all of my classmates, here’s my report. There are 6 girls in the classroom (3 Chinese, 1 Brazilian and a Mexican). I stood out among them and ako din ang may pinakamahabang hair! However you want to interpret it guys! Hahaha!! Of course I meant it literally! I am the tallest among them and have the longest hair of course. =P As for the guys, hmmmmmmm.. There’s this one tall, buffed guy (emphasis on buffed) seated at the back. I wasn’t able to get his name but I do know he’s from the US.

After that, the facilitator introduced himself, apologized for barely speaking English then introduced the VP of Mobile Phones in Gumi Plant. Perfectly understandable. I mean, how often was I asked to speak slowly to them whenever I’m explaining something back in the Phils and how often do I reply to them using speech and sign language so they can understand me better? How’s that? The VP is speaking the vernacular and someone translates it for us.

*End of speech, claps hands.*

Shortly, the first session began and that’s when I noticed that Dien is already seated at the back. Of course, I’m not checking out US guy. =P Whew, thank heaven! During the break I decided to greet him but what slipped out of my mouth is a quip if he went swimming first that’s why he’s late. (Actually, that’s the official version of the time difference excuse above, haha!) I’m so mean. Hehe. We were allowed to use the computers around but I preferred not to go online. I’ll totally ditch work. :P So, I walked around and I saw some dogs. Wow! There are dogs in the learning center, in the Samsung plant! How possibly cute is that? Awww, they’re so adorable. =) I spent the break playing with the three of them. ;-) I miss my Choi Choi.

I didn’t notice that the plant visit is already next to the 1st topic. We transferred to this other building which you can’t differentiate from the rest. In the ground floor, we were divided into 2 groups and US guy is in the other one. Sayang! Hehe. We were then given this radio receiver to hear better the tour guide. Cool! Of course I know it’s going to be noisy inside. We took the lift to the 3rd floor and ushered into what must be a room. Bollocks! I didn’t imagine that it is already the production floor we’re entering. Goodness! I thought we’re going to wear first our safety apparels (smocks, goggles, ESD shoes) but no! I’m officially reporting this as a safety hazard! Wahaha!

We were grouped first into this display of mobile phones and their well, circuit boards. WARNING: Geek talk! But in the wall, there’s this array of carved wood of caricatured faces of the employees for that certain floor. It’s funky and colorful! Hey, we don’t have that back at Intel. =P No pics allowed, sorry. Shortly we were led to the start of the processing line.

What the???????

The rest of the sentence seemed stuck somewhere between my brain and my throat. It’s as if the thought were too unbelievable to even be expressed. I mean, I know the plant visit will involve machines and all but I didn’t expect it would be the Chip Attach process, my very own module back at Intel. My ghost from the past is hunting me back, hahaha!! There goes the unloader, the flux print, chip attach, oven and the loader. Goodness! Not the same spanking brands that we use before but there they are in their phone-producing glory! And the good thing here, the translator doesn’t get much the process. So, I was sidelining on the transmitter explaining what each equipment does. Too bad, the whole class wasn’t that interested. But it’s fun looking at them so amazed on their new environment. Hehehe. I get to ask questions on the process just out of curiosity but the guide hardly understands me even if it’s already translated. Bloody CAM, haha! Wait, before your head falls off with boredom, lemme just tell you that there’s an epoxy process inserted somewhere in the CAM link. Epoxy is a downline process after chip attach in microprocessors production. Wait, why am I talking dirty? I mean, epoxy is dirty right? Err, Sam? And another quick question, am I giving out classified Intel confidential in here? Hahaha!

* After plant visit is lunch; will be discussed in part C ;-) *

The afternoon session went on fine. I didn’t get any sleepy coz the making out of words from the mouth of the speaker was enough to keep my brain functioning thank you very much. For the 2nd to the last topic, the speaker was barreling along in his slideshow presentation. On this particular slide though, he was discussing some Samsung jargons on technical documents trying his very best to explain it to us. For the last bullet he gave out an introductory that it’s his first time to encounter such a word and needed to research about it this morning. He asked the class if someone knows what the word means. Prickled with intrigue, I looked at the foil and there it is written in 24 pt Times New Roman, Post Mortem. *Gasp* Damn right, I know what it is! Didn’t I just spend my 2 years working on that? No, not the one on death cases you bananahead! ;-) I waited for some 2-3 seconds but no one’s responding. Oh my god, moment itoh! I timidly raised my hand and after being acknowledged, gave my best definition of the term. Starting with an excuse on how I knew the term,

" Because I worked for production before, Post Mortem is a technical document that explains or pins down the root cause for issues or problems encountered in the process................." Gosh, my sentence is erroneously constructed at the very beginning. Hehehe.

“Yes, you’re right!” The speaker smiled as though being relieved of having to elaborate it further. I’m suffused with delight at that juncture. This is it! My shining moment! Or more accurately, my Modess/Whisper moment with reference to my last post. :P Shampoo naman ngayon! Geese, why do I keep referring to these commercials' slogans? Not that I have delusions of modeling. :P

When he moved on to the next slide, an enormous wave of nostalgia hit me. I recalled this very same incident when I was in the 5th grade. Our teacher asked us to memorize the 8 parts of the speech and its definition according to our book. She was exacting a word for word description. English, being my favorite subject ever, of course I studied hard. Then came the recitation day. For a missed word, regardless of an article the or a preposition of, the punishment is to stand at the back. After 5 failed classmates, I was able to define all 8 by the book's standards. When the rest finished, I noticed that I was the lone student seating. That’s when I became the teacher’s pet. :)

Bearing this episode in mind, I wasn’t to be stumped about. I focused myself on the next slide and braced myself for whatever questions that might be posed next. On this next slide, I saw a jargon which is familiar from the past work but doubted that it will be asked. It’s just too common, I thought.

“Does anyone know what BOM means?”

Without hesitation this time, “Bill of Materials.” I instantly replied in chorus with someone. To my surprise, it’s my seatmate Lawrence.

Wait, haven’t I told you yet? We used to be compatible before. Sometime after our last training, I learned through our chats that he’s worked for a production before as a planner. Some common background you may say. But that's just it. :P

“Yes, you’re very clever.”
The speaker said with an approving smile.

Ssshheessh, I felt myself flush at the sound of those words. I can feel the eyes of my classmates piercing through me I bet I can even see my hair turning red. Yay! I tried my very best to pull off a serious face so they can't tell I'm flattered but it's no good. I felt my face crease into a smile.

So I guess that must be it. Like a student already qualified to be exempted for the final exams, I decided to rest on my laurels. (Laurels daw o, haha!) Give others a chance. I just hope though that this will be fed back to my boss. Mwahaha!! But sadly though, no more questions asked. The training ended for the 1st day.

Guys, please don’t get offended with what I’m saying. Remember, my pride is our pride: Filipino pride. :) That class is comprised of almost 20 countries. Besides, what I knew was just purely based on my experience, nothing else special. And I’m thankful to Intel for that? (Now that I mentioned it, am I really thankful???? hahaha!) It’s always good to stand out on trainings abroad to change the wrong impressions on us. I do believe on this even if my boss wouldn't reiterate it to me. =)

We were then instructed on how to go about with our dinner. Bye for now. =)

My Boss' Wedding

In lieu of this recently held joyous occasion, allow me to share some of my wedding tidbits:

#1 Unlike most women in the female population, I don’t fancy my own wedding. I don’t have any visualizations whatsoever of me in my own wedding. I just like the garden type and that’s it.

#2 I maybe a drama queen but I don’t get all mushy on weddings that I attend to. When I questioned myself “Why?” last Saturday, I had second thoughts that maybe I’ll be a mess in my best friends’ or closest friends’ weddings. I mean, after all the tragedies they’ve been through (or can I just say we’ve been through? Hehe), it would be such an earth-shattering event. Hehehe. But then last Saturday, there were moments when I almost cried if not for I remembered I’m not wearing a water-proof mascara. So it was all stuck there in my throat when I heard “Mahal Kita” being played during the march. I love that song. And the other one is when after the kiss, Ma’am Maui hugged my boss like a child as though he’s just arrived from somewhere or that he’s going away for a long time. Such tender expression of love and happiness. Aww, so sweet! =)

#3 I’ve been an usherette, flower girl, bridesmaid and maid of honor in my life. Not that I'm implying anything here. =P

#4 In relation to #1, however unimagined it may be, one thing is guaranteed. I’ll look fashionably gorgeous in my wedding gown. LOL. I stumbled upon this dress of Rachel Bilson sometime last week, I thought it’d look good on the post-wedding ceremonies. :) No? Actually, I was thinking of this when an officemate (who always anticipates what I'm wearing on company events) asked me last Friday. But I'm not the type who upstages the bride like that. That's rude.

#5 I’ve read a book of ethics sometime 3rd year high. (Geese, how on earth did that book land on my hands?) and it said it’s ethical to wear something motif-related to the wedding your attending to. According to that book, it’s wrong to say congratulations to the bride ‘coz it should mean “Congratulations for finding such a beautiful bride.”. Something like that. So,

Congratulations Sir Jay and Best Wishes to Ma’am Maui.
Lastly, I think I need to stop being all too negative on not having my own wedding right? Maybe I should start visualizing it now. Is 24 a bit too late for that? Yay!

Quality Time

Out of the 17 days she was here, I was only able to spend 4 days with her. Sad is not even an enough word, it’s depressing. Really! Especially when you’re that willing to spend the holidays with her but you just can’t. We weren’t even that talking, she’s been catching up on a lot of sleep on the first few days that I was around. Silly girl didn’t sleep in SG for days prior her trip due to overwhelming excitement. Hehe.

Dec. 22 – Arrived around 10 PM in their house @ Laguna.

Dec. 23 - @ Victoria Laguna for a religious convention. All hollies & mommies. Yay! Haha! She’s gonna be the best mom ever, no doubt about it.

inside the van

hot mommas

Dec. 24 – Videoke from 8 AM – 11 AM just the two of us taking turns in the mic. =P In the afternoon, went to SM Sta. Rosa for grocery shopping. But before that, we played in Quantum with our recently addicted (just before she left) game. I don’t know what it is called but it’s that hand dance revo thingy. :)

waiting for our turn. oy!

finally on our moves, aye!

Dec. 25 – Chillax @ their house. Before I left around 9:00 PM, I told Tita Millet (her mom) “Hmm, mga ilang araw na damit kaya babaunin ko pagbalik ko?” (bearing in mind the number of days to spend after Dec 28). I found something wrong with her reply. I know someone’s coming. Ate April (cousin of Joy whom she grew up with) is coming home on the weekend. She’ll be returning home from the staying 5 yrs in the US with her husband and a brand new baby boy whom they all haven’t met personally. She said she’s not sure about it ‘coz they want a pure family gathering. Though their clan has always treated me as a family, I perfectly understand it. Even if I was always present on occasions, gatherings even burials, it’s no biggie! According to them, there was already an itinerary on Ate April’s stay. But I felt something’s off kilter. They asked me to return on the 26th because there would be a gathering for a dinner. Disconsolate, I traveled home.

Still, I returned on the 26th after work, had a so-so dinner in their house with lots of guests and 27th morning was when I last saw her. Haaayy…

God knows how I contacted her everyday through text subtly implying that I’m just a text away. Didn’t she know that I sat on the front space of the bus (it’s not a seat, no backrest for 1.5 hrs) the night of 26th because it was so hard to commute those days? I even took a half day on the 27th just so I won’t leave their house too early for work she might be asleep yet. I was hoping that she and her cousin’s bonding moments would be enough for a week and that I can stay maybe on her last week (even if it would mean resting on their house at nights from work)

I was just hurt that there was a Saturday when we were both on a mall, only different ones. The cousin’s spending time with the dad’s side relatives. She didn’t bother to text me if I’m free. Of course I would travel to Alabang even if its miles from our home! Until finally the last 2 days and her date of departure but there are no invites. =,(

She texted me on the real reason behind on her last day, make it in the airport. She also apologized. I quipped saying the perfume she gave me was more than enough to erase whatever it is I’m sulking at. But of course, it’s not! Turns out the last time Ate April visited, she got jealous of the attention towards me, she felt left behind. I understand, but I didn’t mean it to be that way. I just don’t know why something was not done to alleviate it. Oh well, blood is thicker than water.

I also don’t know what kind of excuse they gave out to folks out there. They know we’re twins. We wear same style even same dresses at times. They very well know that where Joy is, there’s KC is. I hope they don’t think we had a misunderstanding.

You know prior to my trip in SG, I emailed all my friends: Intel friends and college friends working there and asked them if we could meet up. When I came back here, I received lots of messages from them mocking me for not showing up to them. But still, they were not my relatives right?

I’m just frustrated. I just learned yesterday through our seldom chats that there were 4 convoy cars that escorted her to the airport. Of course, it’s not only relatives at all! Close friends were included. Now where do I belong? Am I not part those friends and relatives?

No one’s to be blamed. So I hate that I feel this way and act to her as if everything’s fine and dandy. I just hope that she won’t take it as because I’m already on the loose.

A day before her flight home, I called her up. She was with a guy she’s dating and allowed me to talk to him. She told me I’m her best friend. And it’s enough reminder for me to hold on.

Aaahh, sorry for this baggage. Venting it out is such a big relief for me. These are the times when s girl needs a boyfriend right? Hahaha! Hey, my sense of humor is returning. This is a good sign. Happier posts up next week. Make sure to stay tuned guys! :)

KR Travelogue Day 2a: A Gurly Prologue

Black and white has always been my favorite corporate color. I don’t think I’ll ever get tired of wearing ‘em. Sometimes I start a week on those two hues and there are times it will continue for the entire week. Trainings abroad are not an exemption. Remember my SG trip? But of course not in those same outfit anymore. Excusez moi! For today, I’m wearing my black trench coat and white slacks (and there’s the thermal of course!). It’s the same heater I referred to in my last post.

Without the footwear on, I could see there’s one full-fledged fashionista staring back at me in the mirror. But with my camel boots on……oh no. For the first time, I violated my strictly BnW principle (that usually extends up to the accessories). I swear I tried to find some matching black pointy-toed boots of my size (Size 40, fyi) but there’s none. Nada! But it MUST work! According to my dress rehearsal (thanks Allen for coining the term), it somehow worked! Let’s just assume that the boots took the boredom of using the BnW all over and I’ll pair it up with my bronze-colored bag (not exactly the same but near enough color) to adhere to some fashionista rule.

As for the make-up, hmmmmmm…I saw the list of attendees and I’m thankful that I’m not alone. Yes there are girls this time around. I shook off the inhibitions to play with colors on my face. But sadly though, I only do one kind of make-up on my face. And that’s already my definition of subtle-yet-defined look! If I’m feeling it though, I add more gloss and double-coat the mascara. Which is what I did! =P

It’s 8 AM on the dot when I left my room: 210 of BestWestern Gumi Hotel. Though I hate the small room and the out of kilter light in the boudoir (I had to do make-up in the toilet, hmmp!), I have one favorite part of this hotel. It’s that sort-of bridge that interconnects the rooms and the stairs. It is shielded but terrace-like you can not only view the outside but feel the temperature as well. And what’s nicer is that there’s a beautiful smell emanating from somewhere if you pass through it.

When I reached first floor, I turned right to the bar to look for Lawrence that I walked past the table for guests signing. (Of course, I'm not excited.) He called around 7:45 AM and I told him to go ahead. Sure enough, there he is on a table dining with a certain guy; greeted me good morning and introduced me to Ali, he’s from Egypt but works for Samsung Dubai. Oh, here they are! My counterparts! I looked around on the couple of tables and the number of signatures on the paper I signed a while ago means it’s them also. I excused myself for a while to get my food and recalled the first time I was accosted by Lawrence in SG. Gee! What was I thinking blaming it on my make-up, haha! I realized that it’s his job to be friendly with everyone. And besides, I think it’s his inborn talent. Hehe.

When I went back to my seat, I’m just listening to their conversation and nodding along the way. Truth is, I’m not very well disposed to Ali. He looks like an unfriendly Boy Abunda. I’m thinking that he’s gay also. Haha! Bad, bad girl!

Around 8:15, I went back to my room to get my bag and brush my teeth again before the pick-up bus arrives at 8:30. Before I left, I was already informed that the factory is strict when it comes to memory storage devices. Laptops, cameras or any storage devices are not allowed. I’m not sure about the camera-enabled phones though. Passes are needed I think but I can’t leave my U700 with my digital cam. There are 3 phones I bought with me here, and only one is 3G and working. Sheesh, why haven’t I thought of that? I’m taking pictures no matter what. First offense is pretty much venial right? =P My boss advised me not to bring my laptop anymore. “Pabor!” – was all I can say. No work, all play! *grins*

As I step down the stairs, I was threatened with the sight that stood before me. There in the lobby is a whole phalanx of 6-feet men in their immaculate suits conversing with each other. “The Europeans”, I thought. But something inside me gave me a natural high; I raised my head and said “Kaya ko ‘to!”. At that instant, I felt like I was that girl in Modess or Whisper commercials faced with a big challenge in front and armed with an effective napkin suddenly makes her confident and worry-free! Sheesh! (Not that I’m having my period or something.) :P

I turned to my heel and went straight to the bus. As usual, I took on the window side to give me a commanding view of the road to the office and the friendly Lawrence sat beside me, I thought he's gonna mingle. I can hear a lot of chatter and laughter inside the bus. Hmm, it looks like it’s going to be a one friendly assembly. :)

In that less than 5 minutes ride from the hotel to the plant, I’ve seen a river, an LG plant and a temple. The latter is definitely a must-visit. We stopped infront of a building inside the Gumi plant. I swear this is soooo my workplace before, sooo Gateway of Cavite, so Industrial Park. Except that, the whole industrial park is only Samsung. That huge, I kid you not!

When I went down, I noticed that the rest of the delegates hesitated to go inside the building so we stayed outside for some time chilling. Lawrence proceeded to introduce himself to the two ladies who seem to know each other already. No hard feelings here but isn’t it a bit OA? I mean, come on, we’re going to know each other later for sure.

I was expecting a conference room. When we reached 3rd floor of the building, I saw a group of teenagers on what must be an open mini library, a set of computers across it, books along the hallway and finally our classroom. It’s like being in a school, wow! :) I preferred the 2nd table from the front among five rows, the third and last column on the right which is near the window and took the right side of the two-seater table where Lawrence remained to be my loyal seatmate. Everybody were removing their coats and hanging it on the backrest of their chairs and I can’t. The thermal I’m wearing extends from my short-sleeved top. Stupid! Why didn’t I go for my long-sleeved turtleneck? Ok, I’m gonna endure this entire day with this coat on! Fine!

We were asked to get our books from the leftmost table infront. The organizer (whose name escaped me) noticed there were books left and then he asked if everybody got theirs. That’s when someone reported that Vietnam is not around. I looked at Lawrence and he just gave me this “I don’t know” face. We’re supposed to go together but I didn’t try (or even had the slightest intention) to contact him.

Oh my god, where is Vietnam?

I Remember The Boy

He was (or used to be, I’m not sure what’s better) my crush when I was what, like 10 pounds ago?? I used to think I was chubby back then but what the heck? Look at me now. Anyways, it was one sunshiny morning of 1999, summer is in full throttle (yeah, I’m trying to be artistic here, hahaha!), one of those very seldom moments that I went out of the house to buy something. It was just 2 steps away from our door when there I spotted inside the water station that’s infront of our house what must be a Fil-Am boy. He’s probably a relative of the business owner. And ok, yeah he’s cute but let’s not get carried away here ok? Looking back, I’m amazed as to how I exercise judgment when I was a teenager. In that same day, I saw him (of course I’m not spying) delivering those gallons of water to the neighborhood and I swear that was a total turn-on, an instant crush. No, it’s not how cute he carries those containers but it’s more on not bothering to do that menial job when you’re that good-looking! Basta!

After some time, I learned that he’s suddenly become the girl talk of the neighborhood: the crush ng bayan. That very same night, I noticed how young girls were passing by their store every so often or buy a 10-peso worth of clean water. Gee, their per-day sale must have atleast risen to some value. And how did I notice all of these? Well, my mom must be very thankful to him for the lazy person that I am suddenly brings myself to attend to the customers in our store (yeah, we used to have one) that’s a door away from our sofa and the petulant person that I am, is in instant bright mood to the customers. (Yeah I know you must always be pleasing to them but what I can do; they’re disturbing my TV schedule. =P But when you’ve got a nice view infront, why not?)

Well, so sorry to these girls ‘coz the next 2 days I think, he approached the store and bought some ice cream (with me as the storekeeper of course), introduced himself, talked for a short while and went back to each other’s businesses. Shortly, a waitress from a restaurant beside us, whom he befriended with, went to the store and asked for my landline number. Of course I know what that’s for. Old school, hehe. When he called, I learned that his tito gave him the job for the summer and that he’s of the same age as my younger brother. Pedophile, tsk tsk! Hehe.

When his job was finished that night, he came over the store to again talk to me before his uncle comes to pick him up. Those visits became a hobby. I’m just not sure though if I became the object of envy of the girls. Well, he’s got a girlfriend to begin with and really, we’re just friends. No showbiz here, hehe. But sometimes, he’ll call his cousins through our phone, introduce me as his gf and pass the phone over to me. You know that time, you can give me an algebraic equation and I will gladly solve it for you but to dissect men’s- or boys’ to be precise- words or behavior to me, no! I don’t know. There's just no formula.

Then summer passed. We lost communication. I started college, had a bf 3 years after, landed on my 1st job, broke up, blubbering mess, struggling single, transferred to a new job and received a text from him on my 1st week. Of course I got excited to hear from him. It’s been 8 long years. He got my number when he visited his uncle’s store last April and got the number from my mom. (I’m telling you, they’re that close.) But it didn’t become a regular texting which I didn’t mind given that I have a new job to concentrate to.

Two months after on a Saturday afternoon, again one of those seldom days that I went out of the house again. I’ve just closed the door, turned around and there he was, seated on the open van with a phone on his right hand. Our widened eyes locked at 10 paces. So this is the reason for my balking on putting on loose instead of pressed powder, I thought to myself. Sheeesh, why didn’t I? Then snapped back and realized I have to say something.

“Andyan ka pala bat hindi ka nagtetext?”

His eyes still widened, “Ang ganda mo ngayon!”

“Nge!”
I said, certain I was blushing from head to toe. All these years I never learned to say thanks for any praises given to me when it comes to physical looks.

Anyhoo, he must’ve been a good actor. ‘Coz the moment he uttered those four flattering words (and kept on repeating them if I ay add), I was pretty much convinced that the products I’m using are effective. Hahaha! Then he gave me his seat on the van and that’s when I took him all in. He’s still cute, lanky but is now muscular, semi-bald headed as before, tattooed and all. In short, BAD BOY! And he’s talking to me in this exaggerated over-acting Carlos Agassi way. I wonder what’s up with that ‘coz he certainly wasn’t like that before. It was some good 1 hour of catching up before they left. When he’s texting me on his way home, that’s when he proclaimed his intentions. Wow, that was fast! And then he unraveled some truths from the past.

I don’t know if I was just down that time but I entertained him somehow. Though I knew it from the start and I can very well sing those lines from Leah S, “I remember the boy, but I don’t remember the feeling anymore.” Maybe I just really missed the friendship. Sorry to disappoint you guys, but there’s no happy ending in here.

I wrote this because realized that I may not have that childhood sweetheart story which I once wished I have but I do have that guy-coming-back-after-8-years thingy story to tell. And NOW THAT HE'S BACK (again!) – I just noticed that there’s been a recurring pattern when relevant guys do come in my life – I need a reminder to stay strong and to think clearly. Most of all, don't allow the current situations impair my judgment. And there went my resolve.

Ride to Fame: More of Lem

Ever since I posted something about him here, many have questioned my true kinship to him. So allow me to clear this issue once and for all. Yes, he is my full sibling, not a half-brother and we both came from the same parents. Ok? Gosh, feeling showbiz. Hehe.

Last year 2007 has been one good year for him careerwise. He keeps on boasting of it to me, referring to himself as “the most bankable talent” of his agency. Ang kapal, wehehe. I only believe it as far as I can see but my stomach doesn’t want to. (The promised treat to the family hasn’t materialized yet! Lately, it’s been always on me. Huhu!) Below shows his accomplishments for the past year.

It goes without saying that I’m proud of him. Wala lang. Funny, I just remembered when we were young we used to play all the time, physical games. There’s one like we’re going to race from the stairs to occupy first the sofa (that would mean some pushing along the way) and tit for a tat (a simple returning back of blows or strikes) until they get harder and we’re almost hurting each other. Are we weird? There was this one time he’s got me so cross and igneous. In a fit of pique, I took all pictures with him and crossed out his face (that young, innocent and naughty face of him who resembled the young Paolo Contis). But now, lo and behold! Here I am collecting mementos of his endorsements and achievements. Yay!

We didn’t really grow up close. But lately, we talk often because he’s sharing stories on how his VTRs went about (of course Ate would love to hear) and some updates on his showbiz friends ( specially Bruce Quebral, wehehe). I’m one of the firsts he texts when he gets a lead role in a TVC and I just love that feeling: that instant thought as if almost by reflex that Ate has to know because she will be happy and proud of me even if my response to him will only go something like “Magkano bayad? Kelan ka manlilibre?” Wehehe. Of course, I'm not materialistic, haha!

But in my defense, of course I have to know it! Do you know the latest role I took on recently? A make-up artist! Gosh! He entrusted to me how he’ll look on the VTRs which is crucial because we all know what a physical appearance’s worth in their world. But nah, it was an easy job. I really didn’t have to do much in the 1st place. (Yuuun!)

So wanna know the real reason for all this? Well, all my efforts paid off. It’s a Coke commercial! And based on the latest news, a Globe ad again with KC this time. No, not me of course, it’s the real KC. :) I just hope there’s more exposure this time.

And on the next time you’ll see him, I’m pretty much sure you’ll blurt out “Kapatid ni KC oh!”

Now I’m sikat too. Wehehehe.

Tuberculosis

To GMA 7,

It really infuriates me seeing those TV breaks of yours informing the public of your defamation complaint against ABS-CBN blah blah blah. And what? You’re really meaning to air it during breaks of your only show with the highest ratings Marimar? To tell you what, I’m really regretful that I even had to write something about it here in my blog.

First of all, that forced twisting of the story just to extend the said show and take advantage of the ratings is just a lame excuse to the fact that you still have nothing tantamount to replace it. So, in response to Channel 2’s short clip on their “interesting” shows for 2008, you’ll come up with your own version but with the last two shows’ characters still unknown. What, you would like to intrigue the viewers on who are playing the characters huh? Or do I take it you still don’t have talents suited for it?? So, it's not ready yet and you're airing it already? Duh? Well, I can’t blame you. I just heard that one of your very own talents shocked the local showbiz world with her pregnancy. Now, is that the proper way of handling your talents? Tsk, tsk! Or is it your own way of riding with Hollywood’s pregnancy issues?? Sosyal!

Last Sunday, I was happily viewing ASAP with Charice Pempengco’s duet with Lani Misalucha as opening act, Toni’s superb performance on Aguilera’s Candyman and the excellent dance performances when I accidentally sat on the control and it was so unfortunate that it landed on your frequency. And what did I see? Uncoordinated dance moves of your talents for a birthday presentation to the tune of my fave song Umbrella. Geese! I didn’t even know if they practiced together. It was such a sorry sight.

Seriously, look at your shows! There’s no way I would believe that you are the number 1 station, not in any lifetime. =P

Now onto the lighter side,

Aaaah, Spring Waltz. Viewing it sends me tumbling back in time when I was in Korea. I would like to believe that the streets I’m seeing are the actual ones I treaded when I was there. I miss Seoul, awww!

Question, why are Filipinos addicted to horror flicks? Even with one eyes covered with their hand, they’re still going for it? (Of course, I’m not talking about myself, haha!) When I came back from Korea, I haven’t been sleeping in my own room due to the utter mayhem it has become with my new clothes and accessories strewn here, there, everywhere! Through Mom’s help, the bed was finally cleared last week but too bad, I happened to watch Patayin sa Sindak si Barbara! (Gosh, I can’t help but compare it with that poor horror show on the rival station I’m seeing when I take on the G-liners, duh?) and argued with myself if I’ll sleep again beside my mom. In the end I decided against it. I just missed my room so much, I slept with the lights turned on. =P

Something for Tytana

( and you thought you could escape this blog huh? Haha!)

We first jelled during the Samsung HitStop Party @ Fiamma Bar in Jupiter St. She 1st caught my attention coz of the moniker she gave me, Be-yon-ke (coz of what I was wearing I suppose). At first I thought she was just overwhelmed like me with the glitz and glamour of our events being a new hire but in the end it turned out that it’s our love for the camera that brought us together. We were then dying to have our pictures in that board where the famous-es pose. Hahaha!

After some time she will be spotted in our room, sidelining as test engineer when it comes to the camera function. Hehe. Whenever there’s a new phone, be sure she has already tried its camera feature. Here are some of our cam-whoring sessions,

Another thing we have in common is our penchant for Narcissus-like men. Haha!! And with it comes our stalking powers that are tested and proven. It’s been 6 months now and she’s not yet over someone. She still talks enthusiastically about him. I can forecast that it will take her long to find that kind of man. =P

In as much as she is selective when it comes to men, the same can be said when it comes to jokes. Though you’ll often hear us cachinnating in the technical room, you’ll still hear things like “Mas gusto ko yung joke na ‘to” from her. Mamili daw ng joke? Hehehe.

She’s also my work absconding buddy. Sssshh!! At first it would just involve simple visits to the nearest bank where she frequents, soon it became the extended lunch-outs in Promenade whenever she’s craving for something until it reached the highest level of taking me out to her operators. Hehe. I would just like to make it clear that the latter is purely for work. Right Tytana? Haha! The Beyonce concert is one for example. =P

I also learned a lot from her: frugal-living for example and effective dieting. And all of this happened just within here 4-months stint. So are you still asking if I will miss her? Of course no. Haha. Kiddin’

Camera, work get-away, joking, stalking, boys, boys and more boys. I wish you a hot Chinese bloke in Australia and promise to find me someone from the French carribean. Wahaha! Misha GurL! =)

You're In Love

So, Joy’s here. And one bonding session we share is of course VIDEOKE!! So on a Monday morning (yes, morning), I just woke up to her voice amplified by the microphone. (I think it’s one effective way to wake up the sleepyhead in me ;-) And I chose this very special song. Special in a way that I promised myself to sing this song when the right time comes. (so talagang may ganong factor? Hehe) Anyways, please ponder on the lyrics and try to guess what I’m talking about.

Open the door and come in
I'm so glad to see you my friend
Don't know how long it has been
Having those feelings again.

And now I see that you're so happy
And ooh, it just sets me free
And I'd like to seeUs as good of friends
As we used to be
[Chorus:]
Aah, my love, Aah
You're in love
That's the way
It should be
'Cause I want you to be happy
You're in love
And I know
That you're not in love with me
Ooh it's enough
For me to know
That you're in love
Now I'll let you go'
Cause I know
That you're in love

Sometimes it's hard to believe
That you're never coming back to me
I've had this dream that you'd always be by my side
Oh I could have died.

But now I see that you're so happy
And ooh, it just sets me free.
And I'd like to seeUs as good of friends
As we used to be
[Chorus]
I tried to find you but you were so far away
I was praying that fate would bring you back to me
Someday, someday, someday... Ooh, you're in love
Ooh it's enough
For me to know
That you're in love
Now I'll let you go
'Cause I know
That you're in love

And during the so-called “interlude” portion of the videoke, I just had to make a quip about it. So I blurted out “Para sa mga may ex na ikakasal!” and laughed at it. Then Joy added “at mga ikinasal na.”

Repeat Chorus

Thank Heaven for that repeat chorus. And God knows what’s going on in that addled brain of mine singing the song and analyzing something. Again, I got blasé about Joy’s ex also getting married and then followed by mine then I remembered Lisa’s ex also finally moving on with a new girlfriend.

I realized it’s not just about attracting singles which I mentioned in here. Our fates are intertwined. Goodness! But wait! Joy’s lovelife is now is in hearts and flowers due to someone special. Could it be that we are next????????????????? Oh, I’m so anticipating. :)

Korea Travelogue Day 1: That 4-Hour Ride

Needless to say, I’m excited on this trip. Back at home, I’m already in my heater underneath a thick cobalt blue top, skinny jeans tucked inside my camel boots with my matching colored coat hung somewhere in my arms. (Hey, I just wanted to save space in my suitcase!) So by the time I was lined up for check-in, I was practically sweating. Dammit! Miffing me up is this airport guy who keeps on asking for my number while on queue. Duh? Anyways, I don’t think I’m that overdressed. I observed the line infront of me and it is filled with a whole phalanx of soberly suited Korean men (probably corporate honchos) whose luggages consisted of a small-sized suitcase and bulky golf paraphernalia that’s more than enough to crowd up the very narrow space of the econo line. Whew!

On that long queue to immigration, I fell out of line for a short while to get that liquid container for my lip gloss and mini Gucci perfume. There’s no way I’m not re-touching after landing ‘coz I’m meeting Lawrence at Incheon airport. Yihee!!! He called me up on the way to the airport and asked about my flight details. He’s arrived a day earlier and the poor navigator that I am made him promise that we’ll go together to the province of Gumi (where the Samsung factory is and obviously where the training would be). My thoughts were suddenly filled with that 4-hr ride conversation. Maybe we’ll talk about some sweet little something something when someone's voice broke my reverie.

“KC!”

I swiveled my head to where the voice is coming from and there’s a sales manager from the office having the same flight as mine. A company in the flight, that would be great! :)

While we’re waiting aboard, we can’t help but notice how exaggeratedly we took the advises from colleagues in the office. “Exag!” was all she could say. Hello? We’re seeing teenagers in mini skirts boarding the plane. But then again, they could change outfits in the airport. Right?

When the plane landed, I felt a sliver of breeze coming in (i'm saying this from the last row of the seats - hmmp!), maybe the door was already opened. Oooooh, I’m excited to wear my coat na! ;) I turned on my phone and received a message from Lawrence. “Where r u?” Uh-oh! The plane may have left late but I miscalculated the 1-hr diff between Phils and Korea. He was already waiting for 2 hours. Gosh!

As I hurry out, I can’t help but notice how wide and classy Incheon is. Having been to two airports of the same kind made me feel quite ashamed of our NAIA. We headed to the money exchanger so we could buy tickets for our separate buses. I asked Lawrence to go inside and come to the ticket booth. It costs KRW 26,000 and honestly, I had a hard time coming up with such value from the paper bills I have.

“Ate, masanay ka na. Dito para kang milyonarya sa hawak mong pera.”

I chuckled. I inspected my bills and sure enough, the lowest I got is 1000 KRW. She helped me come out with the amount. Shortly, Lawrence arrived and I can’t help but look sheepishly sorry for making him wait. I was so apologetic that I forgot to introduce him to the sales manager. Actually, it’s more of I’m not sure I remembered her name correctly. :P We parted with a beso and Lawrence and I made our way out of the 14C exit.

“Ooooooooooh my goooooooood! It’s cooooooooooooold!”

“What? It’s actually quite nice!” Lawrence seems to be enjoying the weather. He’s just wearing a short-sleeved polo underneath his jacket. I see smoke coming out from his mouth whenever he speaks and Huuuuu, there’s one on mine too! ;-) Coool!!! (Sensya na, 1st time eh, hehehe) I observed the street and saw some fashionable Korean girls wearing mini skirts and stockings on the street.

“Goodness! How can they take the weather in those dresses?” I said as we headed inside a heated waiting station near 10C of the airport. Lawrence, a fashion enthusiast, went on explaining how he’s seen a lot of those for the last day that he’s been walking around Seoul even on the flea market he’s been to. He said he wanted to buy one for his girlfriend. Word alert: GIRLFRIEND. I was like “Oooooookkkkkkaaaaay!” to myself. Good thing I’m reminded this early of my place. =P I texted "Ang laaaaamig" to my friend Lisa - my irrational method of coping. =P
When the bus arrived and we were finally ensconced in our seats, i just found my head pressed against the windowpane. I was transfixed with my surroundings. I know the scene just looks normal and prosaic, but still I soak it all in. Shortly, I faced Lawrence and went on to ask about Dien to him. Dien is the Vietnam guy we met during the training in Singapore. Actually, the training organizer for SE Asia advised us to go the 3 of us together from airport to Gumi. But my bad, I didn’t contact him. Haha! He’s the one I went swimming with on my last day in SG. And I learned that Lawrence didn’t get in touch with him also. Maybe we both thought he can manage alone. Hehe! Or maybe he thinks the ride would be better with only me as company. Stop it, KC! After that I turned silent ‘coz I’m sensing if Lawrence wants to sleep for the entire ride but surprisingly he went barreling on with his adventures. I'm barely making out of his words coz I’m still adjusting to his accent. Not that he’s poor or something. Truth is, for an average Chinese, Lawrence is a very good English speaker. He then opened his laptop and showed the photos he took around. Well actually for an average man, Lawrence speaks aaaaa lllloooooooooot!! I found myself cuddling, no, make it leaning my head closer to him so he can speak softly as the rest of the passengers are already dozing off. For some time I thought about Guy #2 in The Encounter and wondered WHY can’t he be like him. Because he’s a bigoted Atenista, idiot! Oh well yeah he is and I’ve got to stop thinking about it.

We halted to a stopover at Chungcheongbuk-do after 2 hours I think and I got to observe the prices of the commodities inside. An ordinary hotdog on stick costs KRW 5,000. That’s 5 USD for you baby! Pretty expensive, huh? I didn't buy also because it was hard to communicate with the vendors, they don’t speak English.

I preferred to eat my cupcakes back in the bus as Lawrence to my wonder continues on with his stories. It all started with this gay and lesbian Friendster accounts he discovered in the Phils and that’s when I noticed that the topic has taken on a different slant. He’s pretty much liberated when it comes to those things which came to me as a surprise. Much to my chagrin, he started opening up on some problems with his lovelife. I won’t share the sordid details here (not that there are any) but for me, he’s practicing infidelity to his gf. Tsk! Tsk! Mga lalake talaga! And for some time, I thought "Is he like tutoyer-ing with me?" Gosh! I flashed back to our IM conversations prior this trip. I just entrusted my life to him during the drinking sessions. He said he’s gonna act like a father and said that he will protect me. I reassured myself with his words. Come on, this is Lawrence we’re talking about. He’s not gonna be involved in anything untoward. I trust him, completely and utterly.

When we finally reached Gumi, I went to a public toilet and noticed 2 fashionable Korean ladies waltzing out. Wow! This is a province and yet the females are so fashion forward already? How much more in the city? I went inside a cubicle and got out immediately afterwards. Ok, so the bowl is something like embedded on the floor and you have to squat in order to pee. No way, thanks all the same! Hello, UTI! We walked to a gas station to get a taxi and it was soooo cold we have to get inside one ASAP!

I couldn’t imagine how I would survive without Lawrence. We had a hard time getting a cab coz they couldn’t understand us. When finally we had one, Lawrence inside continued on talking to the driver via speech with sign languages on our purpose for going to Korea while I made a short phone call to my mom. He didn’t really have to say much actually, the word Samsung explained it all! Not more than 10 minutes later, around 1020 PM we’re already checked in and agreed to meet tomorrow at 8 for breakfast. In my room, I decided to watch Korean TV -while I unearthed my suitcase for tomorrow’s outfit- in the hope of catching some familiar actors and actresses before proceeding with my night regimen and slept. Goodnight Korea!! =)

My 2007

The ubiquity of this in every blog compelled me to do the same. Well, better late than never. Also, I can consider this the 11th wonders of blog. I just had to review my monthly posts and tadaaaaa….

(a) The concerts

(b) Friendly gatherings

(c) Samsung Events

(d) Local tours

(e) SG and Korea

Of course there are some highlights that need not be captured or were not captured here. For example, my father's retirement and my brother's career (probably on another post ;) and more importantly, the current state of my heart. This year, I was finally OVER someone! Wooohoo!! It may took 3 looooooooong years but it's ok. :)

Allow me to just be a little senti here, it's just that when I look at all these things I never thought 2007 would be a very happy and busy year for me. Its just that before, I believed my life was so boring spending it alone blah blah blah..But enough of that! I've never been this busy in my whole lifetime! I've heard a few friends already telling me they have good vibes for themselves on the coming year. As for me, I don't know. I'll just make the best out of it. To a happier new year. :)

Good Morning Infidelity :)

Call me jologs, I won’t mind. But there’s just something to this tandem that would make you stick to it. It’s the Tambalan of 90.7 FM heard every weekday mornings. Ok, I’m a late bloomer. They’ve been on for 3 years now. I’m not really a total fan but geese! I went to their mall tour last Saturday because of my curiosity as to how Nicole Hyala looks.

This post is not just merely on the hilarity it gives to my mornings but how my outlook was changed on things. Their mantra is simple, look in the positive side of things amidst this problematic life of ours. You see, the mornings of my first few months here at work have seen the grumpiest of me. I guess for a long time I was used to the no traffic (hello, 5 AM?) and convenient couch of our DNS shuttle system in my previous company. Now, I’m stuck on pollution, traffic, unruly fx system and greedy bus operators. There were times I almost got into trouble arguing with bus fare collectors, jeepney drivers or even pervs on the streets. But then I realized, what would I get if I let myself be affected with these things? It’s nothing but the makings of a tumatandang dalaga. Yay! Ugly mornings pa naman can already ruin the rest of your day. So I started making changes in my daily routine. Whenever I’m commuting, I’m always ready with my Kinsella’s definition of piece de resistance (hehe): my trusty sunglasses and my earphones (either my Podie or said station). And yes it worked. No more grouchy mornings for me. I won’t let myself be affected anymore. =P

So sorry Chico and Del. I still tune in though whenever the 2 sessions are finished. Hello mornings. Ű
