KR Travelogue Day4b: Miss Congeniality

“You look good today.” greeted by Ms. Kim when we met her downstairs for lunch.

“Thanks!” I beamed back at her smiling face, her eyes almost invisible.

Inspite of my dress insecurities, I felt great. I don’t know what she saw but maybe it’s the pink and white combination. The truth is, if there’s one thing that sets me apart from the ladies here, it’s the texture of my clothes. God knows what they are called but it’s apart from the wool or leather every female’s been sporting here. =) Besides for the sole girl in the classroom who’s experiencing winter for the first time, I don’t look bad. :P

Lunch isn’t exciting again. I had tofu with sauce spread on the rice, spicy as always. I ate a few spoonfuls. I was almost tempted to order what the Indians are having: potatoes, corn soup and veggies. Well, they are already considered my diet foods. I just challenged myself knowing I won’t taste these back at home.

As practiced, we headed outside the building to help down the food we ate and as I step down the ladder, I met Jakub (Poland) about to go in and accosted me. He asked where are we headed and out of politeness I invited him to come and walk with us to which he willingly obliged. I saw that Lawrence tagged Ronald (the 6’2" from Netherlands) along as the latter shows his GPS-enabled phone SGH-I550.

Sometime after our friendly conversation, I noticed that the distance between that of the group and ours kept on increasing. A while ago they were just about ten steps away but now it’s about twenty or so. Jeez, are these guys in a marathon? Anyways, we kept on talking about usual stuffs like our morning routine to work, hobbies blah blah blah until there comes a point where the whole space-time continuum will go amiss. At that juncture, one or both of you are left to say something about the surrounding after an awkward silence. Yeah, it does happen. Thank god for he quickly thought of complementing the view infront of us. He ordered me to stand still while he takes a photo of me using his SGH-I450. Hmmm, nice dodge if he really wanted to have a solo photo of me. Haha!! Speaking of which, I haven’t asked him for a copy of that picture. I do hope I looked good in it. =P

Had this been a typical scene in a movie, we could’ve walked back to the building hand in hand but of course it didn’t happen. Because I’m the director, I decided that the corporate scene is not appropriate for this kind of romance. Nyahaha!!

When we went back to the building, I noticed that the Asians weren’t around yet. They’re not in the classroom, the computer stations nor in the dog area. Those jerks!! They went somewhere else without inviting me!! Hmmp!! Crestfallen, I plonked myself infront of one of the monitors and I hideously checked the number of views in my Multiply and Blogspot accounts. The addict that I am!! Hahaha!! (Sam, you should come up with a term for incurable addicts like us! LOL!)

When I walked back to the classroom, I finally saw Lawrence still conversing with Ronald by the door.

“Hey, where did you guys go? You weren’t here when I arrived.” I enquired, in my usual charming way.

“We went somewhere else coz we didn't want to disturb your date!” Lawrence replied with one end of his lips curved up into a wicked smile. Ronald seemed to be conniving too.

“A whaaaaaaaat?” in my most OA American accent. I loved the way I said it, haha!!

“Never mind.” He and Ronald went inside the room.

Ok. I’m not annoyed. But, am I sensing a bit of jealousy in here? Hahaha. Let’s tease him up a bit more, shall we?? *devilish grin* Armed with my camera in hand, I asked Jakub, who with impeccable timing, is walking in the hallway and continued our discussion through a question in the map of Poland posted in the wall. I asked Ali (Dubai) to take a photo of us with the pose “point where your country is.”

It was fun. I asked Ali for a photo of the two of us and after that are the Russians. However, it seems I got the wrong persons. Ali’s from Egypt and he was confused if he will point that country or Dubai where’s he’s working now. The Russians, on the other hand, err had problems just pinpointing Russia in the map. Hahaha!! It was obvious in that wide-mouthed laugh of mine in the pic and mind you it was echoing down the hallway. LOL!

Point your country: Jakub, Ali, Alexy and John
After one more session in the afternoon, it was time to take our class picture. I was able to capture all of the shots: the whole class with the high-ranks of Samsung and the per continent delegates. I was able to somehow bond with the China team (with Taiwan included) coz obviously they weren’t much spoken of here.

clockwise: South America; Southwest Asia; Europe and Southeast Asia
China team

Back in the classroom, I felt quite compelled to talk to China girls who are sitting right behind me. I instantly thought of the place we went to last night coz Lawrence and I we’re arguing on a certain Chinese word: whether it meant a hospital or a tomb. So I asked Chi Yan and Jun Xiang with the character which I wrote on a clean sheet of paper. Hmm, I know they’re not that fluent in English but I was expecting they’ll somehow compliment my handwriting. Hey, I used to win awards in my Chinese school before in handwriting contest using the brush and ink. But she didn’t say any. Haha!! It paved the way for a few discussions.

Training is almost ending, I went back to my favorite dog and I carried him around for the last time. I know how women fear pooches but somehow I convinced Esther (Mexico) and Nilce (Brazil) to touch him coz he’s obviously harmless.

Left: with Ms Choi, Nilce and Esther; Right: Chi, Jun and Daisy

my dearest dog Chatori

Like any other training, ours ended with an evaluation. Mr. Jang handed us these bondpapers for comments and suggestions. After which he came around to collect the temporary gatepass they gave us on the first day. It was never really used eversince so I hardly gave it a thought. But today, yes, I’m 200% sure that I slid it in my bag this morning.

He first approached our area but I can’t find it in my wallet. He skipped on me and reminded that it costs 15, 000 KRW in a friendly joking way. I started to panic and went rooting for my bag again but there’s none. Immediately, I fished for my wallet carefully inspecting every pocket amidst the different currencies and cards in there but none. When at last I saw a card different from the rest I normally have, I took it out but to my dismay, it’s the hotel card.

“I reminded you to bring it.” Lawrence said.

“I bou- brought it.” My English is failing me when I’m nervous.

“15 dollars.” Reminded again by Mr. Jung.

Oh god, where’s that card? I delved in my bag again. I swear from now on, I’ll tidy up my bag. Ever!! I know a fine lady doesn’t keep it in such a sordid state. When at last I found it buried among the pile of toiletries and gadgets, I took it out, let out a whew and fanned myself using my hand which to my surprise earned snickers from everyone in the room.

I felt myself flush at the incident. Great! They’re all looking at me. The embarrassment must have been written all over my face now but the strange part is they laughed when I fanned myself. I mean, come on, it wasn’t done to amuse them. It’s a normal reaction. Am I really that naturally funny?

End of training. Woohoo!! We were given 15 minutes to roam around before we leave the room. I bid goodbye to the dogs once more and headed to the toilet. I guess it’s time to do a re-touch but I was thinking of changing my coat so I don’t have to wear this suffocating pashmina.

Pink or camel? Pink or camel? It took me some time to decide but I ended up changing. After which I did a few more re-touches here and there.

When at long last I emerged from the comfort room, I noticed that no one familiar is around. I went back to the classroom but the students for the night shift had already taken over. I walked towards the other end of the floor but there’s no sign of any delegate. I clattered down the stairs thinking that maybe they’re already on the bus waiting for me but there’s no bus infront. It’s almost 6 PM and it’s starting to get dark outside.

Oh my god, where are they? Did they leave without me? But how come? No one remembered me? No one bothered to inform that I’m missing? This, after all my efforts of befriending everybody? Its hurts (pun intended). But seriously, I’m hurt.

I did a quick mental check on what I could possibly miss if I just went straight home. Food – fine; Drink – oh, even fine; my crushes – no, I shuddered. It’s not fine, not at all!! And of equal importance, what about my rehearsed song for tonight? It’s meant to impress them. Wahaha!! Times like this, I can still manage to think of silly things. Hahaha!!

I went up the 3rd floor hoping somebody’s in there looking for me but there’s no one familiar. Not even the janitress whom I befriended with, if only the dogs could speak. *sigh*

Oh my god, where’s everybody??

Crazy for High-Waisted

Don’t give me that look. Please. And don’t remind me coz I still bloody well remember how I
(a) Invested so much on my white skinny jeans and announced my abhorrence for anything wide bottomed;
(b) Promised to spend wisely this year.

But take delight coz there will be no lame excuses this time. Nope. Just sharing the pleasure of having to do tuck-ins (which I’ve never done before due to my body frame) and getting the “S” complement from the ladies in the office. Come on, its very seldom that you hear it from them. :) I love it!

P.S. (a) I still love my white skinny. (b) I’m off to prove it’s a wise buy. (c) It’s still from my fave fruit shop. :}

KR Travelogue Day4a: Samsung

(still high from my patron seat tickets for Maroon 5, what a timely post about my company ;)

I’m way too cool for you boy. That’s why it will never work. I’ll have you suicidal, suicidal when I say it’s over. Damn all these beautiful girls, we’re only gonna do you dirt. We’ll have you suicidal, suicidal when I say it’s over.

Early in the morning, I was already stretching out my vocal chords, singing with so much gusto in the bathroom. Before I left, I was already informed that the dreaded dinner (with the drinking of course) would involve some talent portion. So there I was, practicing Beautiful Girls (Jojo’s version) at the peep of the day.

I put on my spag strap top and a fresh stab of fear went through me as I remember Ms. Kim’s words that super low necklines aren’t allowed in the plant. Why oh why in the world did I ever listen to Leon’s advice on strictly corporate attire when some other delegates, I notice, are in jeans and sneakers. Hmmp!! That means the pink pashmina will be stuck here around my neck. Different contemplations everyday, haha!! It’s pretty obvious; I wasn’t much impressed with my ensembles for the last 2 days. Haha!!

In the classroom, I was handed this newspaper The Korean Herald. I’m not really a newspaper girl but I just flipped through it out of curiosity. I saw an article about Samsung and that’s when I saw the introductory “There are 3 things you can’t avoid in Korea: death, taxes and Samsung.” How very true and timely after what we discovered yesterday. The credit card, the mobile phone, cars, appliances, everything! Haha!! Of course, these aside from the fact that they were initially involved in fishing services. Ű

Talking about stories that are done to death, another story was repeated this time by Mr. Jung. He was the translator of the VP’s speech during the first day and is pretty good in English. Anyway, the story was told by my co-engineer back at work; heard from Leon in Singapore and finally here. According to Toni Gonzaga, for the third time once again. Hahaha!! And may I say, each story has different versions. Hahaha!!! It is about how Samsung earned the trust of the Koreans. Ok, lemme present to you the gist so there will be no plus-minus (my term for dagdag-bawas, haha!!).

From what I heard, there was a car accident in Korea wherein the car got seriously damaged as well as the phones (I don’t know how must be a terrible accident really). So there were 2 passengers and both attempted to call emergency using their crushed phones however only one was able to make his phone function and you know what that brand is. Hehe. He pledged on how Samsung phone save his life and the rest is history. Right at the end of the story,

“Quick question” raised by Jaemin from the back which gathered snickers from everyone in the room. Perhaps everyone heard different versions, hahaha!! That was cute. Hihi.

But even with different renditions, I still believe in my company’s quality of products. :P Come to think of it, I was wowed by this story during my few first months and has proven it while working. The durability and form factor has earned my trust. Naks!! KC po, proud to be ka-Samsung. Wahaha!!!

During the break, they showed us a clip of how Samsung was able to combine their most famous boy and girl bands in a concert to the shrieks and much enjoyment of the fans. Not only that, when I roamed around I noticed a poster on one of the classrooms with the picture of my crush Lee Joon Ki (Nico of My Girl) endorsing the MP3s. Hihi. I can just imagine how the Koreans love and support Samsung. And yes I already asked last night how about getting Raine my super duper crush as an ambassador but I gathered he’s too expensive. :P

Lee Joon Ki for Samsung MP3 players.. :)

Enough of Samsung, I remembered I still have my mission for this last day. Tomorrow at Neverland is no guarantee that I can mingle with the rest of them. And I do have my props today: my digicam. Ű Who cares about security measures, duh? Haha!! But before anything else, I have to take a souvenir with my most favorite dog Chatori. Aww, I will so miss this pup I almost cried. It feels like we’ve already bonded for the last 2 days. I really want to take him home. Already, I can imagine him playing with my Choi Choi. Ű

me and master yoda, hahaha!!

So instead of just visiting him in his cage, there I was carrying him and releasing him (with the instruction of the janitress whom I befriended through speaking using sign languages, haha!!) I chased after him in the hallway (imagine a 5’7”girl running along the corridors, yay!) and boy!! This pooch sure runs fast. It’s amazing in his tiny frame. Haha!! He went to the other cage where the girls dogs are staying. Hmm, naughty boy!! Ű

The Dreaded 14th and the Amazing Support System

Because I feel quite triumphant on how I survived the heartless 14th loveless, I resolved to post what I’ve done to serve as something to dig on in the future. (Gosh, I do hope there will already be a sudden twist of fate by that time). Maybe you can pick up some tips along the way. This will just be a spontaneous account of the day.

To be perfectly honest, I wasn’t aware of it when I woke up. All I remember is that the night before I bought an oversized bag and a matching fab flats almost unconsciously. Yes, unconscious as though something was forcing me to spend. So the night before was spent rehearsing on how to rock my new accessories. Ű (Tip #1: It may do you good to look forward on something else happening on the day aside from the holiday.)

The first reminder was when I was taking the bath while listening to the radio. It so happened that this station I’m frequenting to in the morning for hilarity had the host sharing some bitter yet funny sentiments on the holiday. Something like if she’s gonna win as the president, she will have the holiday entirely removed from the calendar. Haha!! I then proceeded to dressing up my planned outfit totally forgetting that I was supposed to wear black but ‘s ok. (Tip #2: Maybe you can do your routines on a different light, exercise in the morning, listen to your favorite radio station, and have a nice cup of coffee perhaps.)

I steel myself when I first stepped on the lobby aware of the possible items I might see. I took a deep breath before I pushed open our glass door that would lead to the cubicles but to my astonishment and huge relief, there are no red thingy on everyone’s desks. What’s wrong in here? Is everybody loveless like myself?

Gingerly, I walked towards the technical room. In that 39 steps – I counted – it took me to get there. I tried hard not to fancy the thought of a secret admirer perhaps finally confessing his affections for me through a bouquet of flowers waiting for me in my desk. I’m getting quite giddy on this thought and when I opened the door…

WHOA!!!

Whoa-la! Hahaha!! But ‘s ok. And some morning greetings or should I say jesting were thrown my way,

“O KC, nasan na ang mga flowers mo?”

I realized this is where my talent must come out. I did some quick internalization and took out my phone pretending to be dialing,

With wrinkled forehead, “Grabe, sabi ko 10 AM ako darating sa office eh. Tatawagan ko nga yung delivery.” Everbody laughed. Hehehe. (Tip #3: You can probably josh about the situation and don’t take things seriously. If you’ve seen some flowers, just think that they had it delivered for themselves. Haha!! Mind over matter GuRL!! :)

I shunned myself from the outside world and concentrated on my work ignoring any text messages and stayed offline to avoid pings from my attached friends coz any greetings would somehow mean for sure that something pleasant has already come their way. It was when Sir Mark (sales manager) entered the room that I first felt a surge of pure joy. He came around distributing Ferrero chocs to the ladies of the mobile phone team. I swear, that was a very sweet gesture. Although he’s already attached to someone from the team also, I will still give him 100 pogi points for that. Ű (Tip #4: Because I know some guys are reading this: gentlemen, you already know what to do next time? Ayt? Haha!)

In the afternoon, I was once again delighted that the company gave out cakes to the girls (to be shared within their team of course). How thoughtful, how Goldi err Red Ribbon. Haha!! Valentine ’s Day isn’t that bad after all. Ű

I remembered my friend Lisa and I have to ask her how she is. I was very happy to learn that Smart gave out chocolates to the ladies also. Ű So after that, we were both like “Bloody hell!! Bakit walang ganito sa Intel before?”

I was balking on going overtime or going home @ 6 o clock in the dot. Then it occurred to me that for both ways, you’ll still get the teasing

6:00: “Uyyyyyyyy, may date. Yihee.”
OT: “Waah, walang date!!”

It’s no brainer dude.at exactly 6:30, I decided to use my 1K worth of GC (Azta Urban Salon) that I’ve been keeping since January 1. Special thanks to my brother btw for this. Ű (Tip #5: This might not be applicable for everybody, but it is better not to render overtime on a holiday like this.)

I decided not to take a cab and learn how to commute from Greeenhills to Meralco Avenue. The first attack of envy came when I saw a couple with a girl holding a very huge bouquet of flowers. And I could’ve sworn I saw that tinge of smugness on her face when she saw me emptyhanded. What a hyprocritical cow! Didn’t she know I’m not that pompous, show-off type and I kept mine in my huge bag? Beeyatch! Yes, I’m to too determined to be shattered! Haha!! About the bag, I realized that’s what the calling is for. Haha!! Although I bloody well know that I will do otherwise. Hahaha!! (Tip #6: Ladies, be considerate of other’s feelings (crushed feelings if I may add, haha). If you don’t wanna be called a b****. :P

Anyway, I almost got lost through asking but I finally learned that the salon is in Metrowalk. Big mistake to go in places where couples/lovebirds are out and about but I’ve gone a long way to be affected. I decided to pamper myself with a protein treatment (aka hot oil) and had a trim. But not the cut that’s expected from a girl jilted by a lover of course, haha!! No, just styled up the ends a bit. (Tip #7: Go out with girlfriends and treat yourselves. Maybe salon or a massage would do. You can also buy a book (i.e Sophie Kinsella’s latest novel Remember Me?) :)

To cap it off, I indulged myself with my fave frappe and pastries on my way home. That's "To go" so as not to stay anymore in the cafe.

This is my so called materialistic approach. Hahaha!! Anyway, I also partied on the 15th which you all know from my last post that I had a BLAST!!! :)

♥ EMBA - Feb 15th ♥

Has got to be the most happening in the clubbing life of Cherry and Ria. And with those pseudonyms I meant Lisa and me. Hahaha!! Finally, at long last, we were able to work out our skeds and come out of our shell! And once again, finally, after what seemed like a long day of bearing the dreaded 14th: the most cursed and insensitive holiday of all. Hey, I’m not bitter! In fact, I’m too giddy to be annoyed. =)

The ambiance: The Embassy is now renewed. Bigger, better!! You can’t take it from me to compare it somehow with Alchemy coz it was somewhat similar. We walked from the foyer straight to the staircase where in 2nd floor you’ve got two rooms of choice. The one on the left looked spacious with very few people so we headed to where from afar looks crowded already and let ourselves in. The buzz of people, the scent of liquor, cigarette smoke, designer fragrances wafting past, the brightness, the glitter, the colour, the Metropolitan people – I live for these moments. Gosh, I’m home. Hahaha!! Don’t be confused though, the mall will still be my home for the day. Hahaha!!! Gosh, I so missed it all!!

The music. I didn’t know they have this RnB/Pop/Rock remixes because before we used to party in the trance/house music hall. No, don’t think I’m not that in to trance but it sort of gives you more vigor in dancing when you can sing along the ditty right? Before, we use to hop in Jaipur to hear my fave RnB music but not anymore. In no minute, Cherry and Ria were already shaking their thang on the floor to the beat of Sean Paul’s Sexy Ladies.

Cherry and Ria

The people!! The beautiful people oh my gosh!! The place was jampacked that I initially thought about fire exits, wahaha!! It seemed like everybody wanted to chase the blues away brought about by the most cruel celebration (atleast I’ve got another adjective :P) of all. Everybody’s too in the mood, too ready, too friendly. Everybody’s eyes were gleaming and hopeful. And it made me smile a lot. Even the celebrities returned my gesture. Geese, what’s up with that?

Jampacked

And after meeting new “acquaintances”, guess who I caught sight of?? Oh my gosh, it’s AJ!! He’s an officemate from before (officemate lang?? haha) and I asked him to come near us. God, I so missed him. When he approached us and shouted “Namiss ko kayo!”, I rubbed his hair and with crinkled nose said “Na-miss kita!” (Oops, haha!!) as though two childhood friends finally seeing each other after a long long time. Childhood friends with held back feelings for each other that is. Hahaha!! Atleast, that’s what I like to think of. Hahaha!! Wow, it was just last month that I was texting him and congratulating him for one of their songs being featured in a local show. And I was just ecstatic to finally see him there. The best thing one can have next to Yael Yuzon for me. Golly, I’ve said so much about him now. Haha!! You’ll understand this all when his band gets their turn someday. Ű Ű Ű And now that it's out, yes, I will confess that I’ve hinted something about him here in my blog. Hahaha!!!

AJ, Ria and Cherry

When he left, a few more songs played and upon glancing around I noticed one more familiar girl with long locks dancing next to us. Ppppaaaaaaaaaauuuuu!!!!! Oh my gosh, we were practically screaming at each other’s sights. Hahaha!! Imagine, the former rural girls meeting up unexpectedly in the Metro.

Beautiful Intel girls

I informed AJ to come down and meet Pau through text. In a few minutes he came back and the four of us were grooving on the floor. Hahaha!! I will still stick to what I said – we used to be the most eligible bachelor and bachelorettes of CV1. Hahaha!! I allowed myself to recall for a moment those times we use to have our lunches at Tagaytay or dine together in the cafeteria. I missed the group. Too bad, Christian, Mike and Joann were not around.

Cherry, AJ, Pau and Ria

“Of all places!” uttered by AJ finally articulating everyone’s thoughts.

compressed

The attention!! It was just overwhelming. Hmm, it’s still advantageous to stand out from the crowd (in my stilettos that’s what I mean of course). It makes you spot and be spotted easily. Haha!! I wore it because I thought we would finish around 2 or 3 AM but what the heck!! We stayed up til 530 AM. Haha!! How can we exit? There were never idle moments with new acquaintances coming around. :P When AJ came back, my spirits had been lifted to something near euphoria. He was with us when my fave song was played. And that’s the time I got low, low, low, low, low, low, low. Hahaha!! Now that I think about it, I wonder if I really did those grooves on the floor. Gosh!! Ok, here’s one thing. I’m sober ok? Cherry’s, err I mean Lisa’s new “friend” bought us a drink (Vodka redbull???) and I just sipped a bit just to be polite and I let it be thrown on the floor. Hahaha!!

two old friends, who meet again..wahaha!!!

That night had been an intoxication of happiness. Hahaha!! It was so fun I’m seriously thinking of doing it once a month. =)

KR Travelogue Day3d: If You Wanna Be Famous

David took a look at me as I carefully positioned my hat on my head while walking. He mock questioned me if I bought the hat just for this trip. Biting back a retort that it’s for a fashionable cause, I just said yes. Of course, the hat (although I realized isn’t really necessary) matches my gloves that’s why. Hmmp!! He led us into what seemed like a parking lot outside the Samsung plant with xanthous leaves scattered on the floor and barren trees – such a lovely sight (and poor me without a camera) – and started opening his car.

Learning that it was a newly purchased one, Lawrence – a car enthusiast - started talking about the Samsung car he noticed in Korea. Yes, there is a Samsung car!! A branch of which is being passed by the bus every morning though I wasn’t able to take a good close look at it. And when Lawrence finally pointed one on the street, I couldn’t describe it still. Haha! I’m such a philistine when it comes to these things. You’re talking to a woman who notices a car through its color. I can bloody well point out my dream car of an old rose Honda Jazz in the streets. But to add to my mental dossier is a red muscled Mazda 3 – very sexy! As for everything else, I can’t tell the difference. Haha!! The rest of the time to the destination was spent talking about these boy toys. Aaargh, MEN!!

We parked in the 3rd level of K-Mart which I believe is one of the biggest department stores in Gumi-Si and then let ourselves in the shoe section. All guys turned to me and studied my face for any sparks on shopping but to be honest, department stores don’t really excite me much. I just went near some uggs (ugly boots) and checked their prices without any intent of buying.

Some few more steps and we were already in what seemed like a small canteen inside the department store that serves Japanese delicacies. It took me some time to decide what to have from the display with the prices being laid out. I just wanted to make sure that I’m having a reasonable meal coz we waited for David to withdraw some money from the ATM and I’m not that sure if the expenses would be reimbursable. This, aside from the fact that I’m not much a fan of Japanese foods.

Over their spicy noodles, Lawrence started discussing again about this story that is so done to death. I already heard it when the three of us (with Supachai the Thai) were inching the streets of Singapore, repeated to me in the bus on our way to Gumi-Si and now. I almost want to wave 3 fingers at him, ask him how many it is and tell him that’s the number of times I heard the story. Bad, haha!! Anyway, this story is about the restaurant that offers the seven levels of spicy soups in Thailand. He tried it and his tolerance made him reach only the third level. The catch is if you reach the 7th level, your meal will be considered free. Gee, I don’t want to imagine what kind of people could take it. I mean, I love spicy foods but I’m not up for the challenge. It’s hard to be operated for hemorrhoids; it’s the most painful surgical treatment one can ever suffer.

Again, I wasn’t able to finish mine. It’s such a shame for being the recipient of the treat but I’m sorry. I got carried away by how it was presented in the display. Before we left, David made us try his favorite yogurt drink in banana flavor to which I sipped with much delight. Yum!!

Though we already know that he needs to get back in the office, David still showed us what’s what on the floor. We also went up through the slanted walkalator (if that’s what you call it :P) to the appliances section where we took a look at our very own Samsung appliances (feeling our own, yay! Haha!). Of course, there’s the mobile phone (Anycall), the fridge, washing machine and the TVs with their respective monikers.

We also went two floors down and learned that it’s the ladies section. There were some trendy winter outfits but I gathered they’re too expensive yet not branded. We passed through the cosmetics section and from there evolved a new topic. It so happened that the endorser of K-Mart is Song Hye Kyo (Jenny of Full House) and from her sprung all other Korean dramas. Haha! Hey, did u watch this TV drama or who’s your fave actress blah blah blah. Imagine, a Filipino, a Vietnamese and a Malaysian (with the latter 2 being guys if I may emphasize) talks about Korean dramas!! And the weird thing is, David, the Korean himself, didn’t even have a single clue on all these? Why? Well, he hasn’t got much time to watch TV coz of work. How utterly surreal!! So I ended up advising him: “You know what David, if you wanna be famous, be a star in a TV series and the whole Asia will know you.” :P

At the sight of Kwon Sang Woo (Cholo of Stairway to Heaven) of the Face Shop, another round of talk opened up when Lawrence mentioned how his girlfriend is crazy for that guy. Of course, I won’t hold back my opinion that Raine is the hottest Korean actor for me. Haha!! David then talked to the saleslady and seemed to buy something. After 10 mins or so, he handed us these gifts from the said shop. We were all surprised coz we thought that he was just buying something for himself. Gifts were wrapped and he told us that it’s a handmade facial soap that he’s been using and wants us to try. He gave me the one for sensitive skin. That was a very sweet gesture!!

It’s now or never!! On our way back, I finally convinced the 2 guys to visit the temples near the Samsung factory. David, as expected, will go back to work. I decided against the coat and stockings only ensemble I tried on yesterday and just went with what I was wearing for the day but with the added effect of a pashmina.

Off went the three of us tracing the very same road that the bus is traipsing every morning. It was my idea to walk because it was just near and the two acquiesced to my suggestion. At least that’s what I thought. However, it seemed ludicrous coz the sight is not really that idyllic. But of course, it’s the countryside! There’s barely a sight of people walking on the highway side, the establishments we’re passing by were already closed and goodness! I don’t want to think what the passengers of the vehicles passing by the highway are thinking about us. Come on, it’s freaking cold!!!

I started to feel regret on this idea when after some 20 mins of walking (where we passed by LG plant and a hospital), Dien started to feel pain in his ears. We were already in the bridge that time and I urged him that it was already at the end of it but I was mistaken. ={

(a) tryin' to capture the smoke (b) the only plant we saw (c) Dien in pain in the highway
(d) turtle at each end of the bridge (e) Nakdonggang river (f) the street carpeted with leaves

When we were finally there, I was so disappointed to see that it’s already closed; there are no illuminations outside and it looks really eerie being right beside the river. I just loved the floor arrayed with fallen leaves so I took a photo.

told ya, it's scary

i'm scared ={

for whatever that means, hehe

We then went to have a close look on a similar structure that’s near to it and we discovered that it’s a tomb. For some reason, I felt something creepy on the sight. I just wanted to get away from it. After some photos, we hailed a chugging taxi on the highway and from there all the way to my room, my mind kept recalling all these Asian horror flicks that I’ve seen: the Ring trilogy, Shutter and all other scary films I could ever recall. I muttered my prayers before I slept and buried myself under the duvet. After a few mins, went out of it to block first my suitcase on the door (which I’ve been doing every night). Weird, isn’t it?? Under the duvet I somehow convinced myself that no, there are no Korean horror I’ve seen –they don’t have these kind of myths but only happy and funny love stories. Yup, that’s right. I closed my eyes and let my mind wonder to tralala land.

Press Conference - Manila Pen 2

Our events!!! I could never think of them without seeing them lit up in neon. Why not? Even a simple press conference such as the one held last Wednesday in Manila Pen was lavishly spent for. We’re featured in every stylish magazine you’ll ever know. That grandiose! Absobloodylutely fantabulous!

Last Wednesday was again about the launch of our 3 phones: D880 (Dual SIM), G800 (5 MP with Optical Zoom) and P520 (Armani phone). The concept was Garden of SINS (Stylized Innovations New from Samsung). I just don’t know what happened to the live snake. Haha! Our VP was looking for it. :) The first two launches were just so-so because really, the star of the night must be none other than the P520. There was a short ramp for the phone featuring PMAP Pro’s to honor the man of style himself: Giorgio Armani. And may I say, only PMAP does fashion show for Samsung! =) Everybody gasped in expectation during the raffle (using the apples) but to everybody’s dismay, it was awarded to the most stylish person of the evening. And no, it’s not me. Hahaha!! Didn’t they know? I’m already so over that. LOLS!

P520 ramp

For the daytime last Wednesday, I was actually wearing the one posted last Monday. It’s just that if work goes crazy in the day and I haven’t got much time to adorn myself, I can go straight to the event non-dishabille. But actually, I do have the clothes ready. Wahaha!! Like I said, I’ve lots of clothes. I must use it especially when I heard who’s hosting the event.

So, ready to know who?? It’s Marc Nelson of the Amazing Race!!! Oh my golly gosh, he’s sooooooo HOT!!!! I’m gonna die. I’m so gonna die. Hahaha!!

Marc Nelson

I can’t help but miss one person here. I wanna know how the master will act infront of her super duper crush. Haha!! Tytana, be green with envy! Hahaha!!

photo-op with Marc

Awww, this pic is so enough to make it through tomorrow. With all the love in the air, this is enough. *sniff* Yes, I’m gonna make it through!!

No more slouching from now on, thanks Mango for the dress. =)

Yes, I've Lots of Clothes

Scared that I might break my word, I didn’t write in here that one of my new year’s resolutions is to spend wisely on clothes. Yay! This pledge seemed clear after almost a month of December unable to sleep in my room coz of lack of space. Really! I actually have pictures but it’s too embarrassing to be shown here. Moving on, a review of expenditures on January revealed that money was spent only on items on sale: a mini skirt (for summer outings); 2 tops (a corp and smart casual); a satin dress (still on trend) and 2 Mango LBDs. Yup, heard it right! 2 Mango LBDs. But I can justify the splurge. (1) They’re 50% off, a STEAL!! (2) LBDs are forever, just like diamonds; and (3) I was down at that moment (something that has to do with my BFF). And it’s true when they say that it’s in those dark moments of the soul that makes the ceremonial rites of browsing and buying more meaningful. Gosh, I will never run out of reasonable excuses will I? ;)

This realization will be capped off by another unpleasant experience. Last year, when I had this forecast that high-waisted somethings would be a trend; I went to the mall and tried a high-waist skirt in Maldita, one of the shops I frequent for corp attire. What can I say? The skirt perfectly flattered my tall frame. However, I checked the price and it’s too extortionate for the type of cloth. (At times, I can be practical too you know ;) It was with a heavy heart that I let it go and decided to be in the watch and maybe check something from other brands. It would all be for the greater good.

Last month, I returned on the same outlet now with red bold letters SALE emblazoned infront. Half-hoping that the item was included on the 50% off tag (goodluck!), I went to that same rack where I left it before and it was still there, hanging prettily! =) The price is not reduced to half but still cut-off to certain amount. Ready to revive that glorious feeling with the skirt on, I hurriedly went to the fitting room. But something was wrong. I knew it the moment it rubbed its way up in my buttocks and the buttons! I couldn’t close the upper buttons!! I hurriedly swiveled my half body to check the size of the skirt and yes, it’s the largest one! The horror, the horror!! Oh no, it isn’t happening. I gained too much weight over the holidays. =(

Disconsolate, I returned the item, went home straight to the minefield of clothes – that is, my room. As I go through the quotidian process of clearing the bed just to have a space to sit on (imagine, just a bloody space to sit on!), I suddenly felt underneath something that’s quite hard for a cloth. I pulled it from the pile and I saw a black thing with laces infront. My mind working now, I excitedly pulled out some items that will go through it from the deep recesses of my wardrobe. When the items were complete, I started fitting the items giddily and produced something below, tada!!!!

The black skirt was purchased 3 years ago straight after college coz I thought it would be useful for interviews and the top was included on the recently bought items. They’re both from Maldita. Haha!! I was impressed with what I came up with. Such a flash of pure genius. :P Who needs new clothes when I can re-invent right?? Haha! The corset is truly doing the wonders! Just a few more experimentation and I will be convinced that this is the next best thing to my leggings – in my fashion diary of course. Ű So far, so good! Fully aware of my recidivism, I would be posting something like this once in a while. Especially now that sale season is over! Haha!!

Wedding Crashers - Manila Pen 1

Attending a wedding reception without knowing the bride and groom?? That's so unlikely of me, haha!! But Papa was invited of course. There were 2 seats reserved and the other one will be automatically for Mama. Then one relative can't come so they tagged Lem along. Realizing, I would go home alone after the church I asked (begged actually) my Mom for me to join them. Haha! That's basically the story, too bad Kuya wasn't there.

But it was good meeting relatives from Papa's mother side (my Lola whom I haven't met). They were the ones living in Davao and in the US. I was surprised to learn that one of Papa's cousin was the lawyer in the Subic rape case. Yay! I actually sulked at Papa for being so proud of Lem to his relatives. I mean, come on. He used to be prouder of me before. So since when did physical looks overcome the brains? Hmmp! Hehehe.. But I'm happy for my Papa coz he had the chance to meet his relatives..

Wait for Manila Pen Part 2.

KR Travelogue Day3c: Series of Conversations

An interesting accent was overheard during the question portion in the afternoon session. I turned around to see Jakub – his name still on his nametag clipped on his chest. Ooooohhh, so that’s how a Polish English sounds like huh? It’s really hard to describe it in words I wished it can just be spelled onomatopoetically like meow for what it is, that thing. On his very brief question (the only time I can look at him) I was able to take him in and he’s not that bad. Good-looking, more like. He resembled my former crush – cager Alex Compton. Broad shoulders and looks very formal in his suit. Looks like we’ve got crush #2 here, haha!! Hep, hep. Easy guys! I’m still practicing fidelity here ok? I’m having one per country, wahaha!!

In another break, I stood up and walked over the table at the back to have myself more Lotte chocolates when incidentally, someone is getting his shares of confections too.

“You must be Jacob.” Bolder this time huh? “Or is it Jakub? I’m sorry.” Smiles.

“Yes.”

“Can I just call you Jacob? That would be easier for me.” Gosh, VIP???

“Yes, yes, you can. Whatever is easy for you.” Wow, I’m special indeed. Haha!!

“So what time is it in Poland now?” And there continued a small chit-chat.

Another plant visit is scheduled for in the afternoon. This time around is for the reliability tests of the phones. You know, like observing how the phone behaves under stress, pressure, shock, etcetera. In the on-off testing lab, Ronald (from Netherlands) and I were left in awe in the room. Starting with a repartee on how things were processed, I asked how tall he stands. Really curious. He’s 6’2”. Not Sixto the Filipino joke. =P

There were also some radio signals testing where I’ve seen a lot of oscilloscopes. Even if I used a lot of those in my labs before, I suppressed my questions and just snooped around. That was the end of Day 2 training.

Dien, Lawrence and I arrived in the bus late because we had a hard time looking for the engineers we know among the sea of office people in that same floor. After some small talks, we noticed that everybody has gone down and we were the only ones left. Inside the bus, I sat beside Jakub to continue our friendly conversation which I almost believed triggered a quite surprised look from Lawrence. Has he got problems with that? I'm not the one who first ditched a seatmate, isn't it?

Same set-up as yesterday, we waited in the gate for the engineers to pick us up for dinner. We could really get used to be trained here huh? Haha. Meanwhile, I talked to the almost inseparable Mexico and Brazil.

“Hi. Where did you guys eat yesterday?”

The shorter and stout woman (Mexico) replied that they had Korean dining also. When she started describing, that’s when I realized that Mexicans despite just being down America geographically aren’t that fluent in English.

“Oh, same as ours. I just forgot to ask the place. You’re Maria right?”

“No, Esther.” Shucks.

“Oh, I’m sorry. I just kept associating you with all these Mexican telenovelas being shown in our country.” Lame again but it’s really true, haha!

“And you must be Nilce.”

“Yes.” the Brazilian said. Isn’t she fluent also??

Shortly, the car that’s taking them arrived and I’m left to converse with Ali.

“You know what with all these kinds of testing, it’s hard to believe that we’re still finding bugs in our country.” Ali opened.

“You know what? That’s what I thought too! But let’s just take it in the positive side, shall we? At least we’ve got work to do.”

“Yeah, you’re right.”

Ali seemed to be a nice guy. Back in the training, he was raising some brilliant questions. I shouldn’t have thought that way about him.

At long last, David (same as yesterday) arrived. Only he this time and he led the 3 of us to his car for dinner.

By the looks of it, we have a Ms. Friendship here in the making. Please have my sash ready. =P

Sunkissed in Pagbilao: An Early Summer Escapade

This place will always hold a very special place in our hearts. It has been a yearly tradition of our college barkada to spend a summer escapade here. Last year was a little special because it’s the owner's (Bert) despedida. And with Bong’s homecoming, what better way to reunite the group than an outing here? The usual trip costs us 2 days but due to some current safety concerns on the place, we weren’t allowed to stay overnight. There were actually other suggestions on where he will treat us but really, we won’t trade it for anywhere else. A day spent here is worth than 2 days anywhere. Ű Here’s why.

Ok. Since I’m not that good in describing places artistically, I’ll let the pics speak for themselves. (Thank you inventor of camera!) A few words though, it’s an exclusive resort, not commercialized, cowboy living and the mountain and beach is very virgin. Heck, it can be Boracay 2. But before anything else, my outfit, nyahaha!

(a) Rihanna's copycat (where's the umbrella) (b) stopover with Mareng May-R

The morning trek (around 15 – 30 mins):

The beach area:

Nighttime views:

(Kevin, wil don't ask where again. I told you to come and visit the Phils :P)

I’m amazed at my own shots. I didn’t realize how breathtaking the views are specially how pic left down in the morning turned to pic left up at night. The last two times I’ve been here I didn’t see that. =P I’ll tell you why. Those times I was busy flirting with whoever my date is. Wahaha!! Ssshhh!! Honestly, there’s someone who’s raring to go. But then I decided to be alone this time and concentrate on my friends specially find the inner photographer in me. Even if it means without someone to assist me during trekking, serve me food, etc, it's fine. I realized that it’s really different when you’re alone. You see a lot, think a lot, and realize a lot!

And our main source of fun in the beach: Bong’s underwater cam. Wahaha!!

Loves it!!! Boy! Did you know how hard it was to get a decent shot underwater?? It’s already lunchtime and we didn’t care getting sunburned just as long as we achieve a nice one. For group shots, we bury ourselves under water but end up getting bubbles coz of endless laughter. Hahaha!! Oh Xiela dear, you missed the fun!! After a million tries, here's my best shot:

vain underwater (fixing my hair, wahaha!)

Other shots from Bong’s SLR, I’m loving it!!

Wit-wiw, trekking, hehe

under the tree

capturing the left side view

Bong's favorite subject :P

On the way home, I dropped my digicam for about 3 times, some calling for SLR replacement…Waaaahh!!! I can’t, I can’t! Too expensive! Sponsor please???? Haha!! And the ever-fun leaps, haha!

Joyce and me, our Charmee leap..hihi

leap-ers, hehe

group's best leap

with our sponsor, hehe (ganyan tlg kapag nanlibre) thanks bong! =)

Please allow me to be a little dramatic here. The original part of the barkada here is Bong and me. But that doesn’t make everyone else different. No, that’s not my point. It’s just amazing how that original group turned into such a huge one as this. Well, its huge, it’s just that most of them we’re already abroad and some other reasons. All I know is that what keeps this group together and still expanding is – a very nice camaraderie. Ű

And here’s the beach bum after the trip:

Tisay na tisay! hahaha! :P

More pics here, worth viewing!

KR Travelogue Day3b: The Director's Cut

With fingers crossed, I hope that lunch today will be with other continents. But it’s still the same. =( And there is Ms Guide again with her heartwarming smile at us. I truly regret how snobbish I was to her yesterday. I mean, it’s not her fault if she wears these really coveted trench coats, isn’t it? I asked Dien for her name and it’s Ms Kim. So, I asker her function and to my surprise, she’s also an engineer. See? I almost underestimated her. Tsk!

The lunch I had today is something like the pork tonkatsu in Tokyo Tokyo. It’s nice to have a Korean food break once in a while. :) Another thing that’s amazing in their dining system is that they’re not used to drinking water in the table. I mean, with all those spicy foods!!! When you’ve segregated your trays and all, you will find a long row of sink with faucets near the exit. It’s like your final stop. Today, there’s juice served in the center. Intrigued as to what kind of juices they drink here other than Bloody Soju, I had a glass and it tasted like………cinnamon! Delicious!

It was drizzling outside (I wished it was snow) but we insisted on going on with our routine of walking around just like yesterday. Umbrellas were provided for employees outside the building: the huge ones. The weather is as expected slightly colder and without my thermal on, I enjoyed it. Ű

Although forbidden, Aditya (India) suggested we have a group photo outside. He had his SGH-G800 (5 MP with optical zoom :P) with him. Ms Kim resisted because she worries she doesn’t look good on pictures but really, there’s no way out. Hehe.

Aditya, Moi, Ms Kim, Dien, Vishwas and Lawrence

Sine Aditya brought up the word photogenic, I told them the tale of how Filipinos are so playful with English words that we came up with “Talikod-genic” and other derivations of that. He found it very amusing.

Finally, I dealt with my “issues” with Ms. Kim, hehe. (1) The history of peace signs in posing – she doesn’t know. She was already doing it ever since she was a kid. And then finally the real biggie for me – the stockings. :P She reasoned out that they’re used to the weather so they can take it in those stockings. She even said that she used to wear those last year but now that she’s a year older decided to be mature on dressing up. Wow, impressive dressing philosophy! I don’t think I’ll ever apply something like that in my entire life. Haha!

At the back wall of the classroom is a printed material with the list of attendees and the country. I inspected it to see if I can identify the faces from the names or just the country and at the same time look for the name of US guy. The Asians of course, Mexico and Brazil – yup, Russians – u-huh, the ones in front of Lawrence and me, Ali – check, Samuel Gonzalez? – parang Pilipino lang ah – oh, Spanish; then bingo, US! But there are two names here – Sean and Jaemin. Maybe the other is the one he’s always with. Anyways, they’re both Koreans. In the training this morning, the Korean instructor asked them soemthing in Korean I overheard. Anyway, I do hope he’s Jaemin. I quite like that name.

Without my trench coat on, I felt as though someone is staring at me from behind. When I turned around – gotcha! In a chant: someone is staring, someone is staring. Hahaha! I won’t tell you whU’S it. Conceited! Hahaha!

This unexpected discovery gave me enough confidence to approach their table, the backmost. Of course, this is all in the name of my mission. Hehehe. He’s seated on the right and the other cute US guy is standing. The other guy stands about the same height as mine and looks really meek as a sheep. A little secret has got to be confessed here though. With the cute adjective means, yes, I find him charming also. Hahaha!! But let’ practice fidelity here all right? Hahaha!

“So, who among the two of you is Jaemin?” I enquired, overflowing with confidence.

I looked at my buffed crush but he pointed his finger to the one standing to the left. Oh, he’s Sean. No point stopping now, I barreled on.

“So, is Jaemin like a common name in Korea? Coz u know what, the overseas marketing in charge on the Philippines before was named Jaemin Park and the one who replaced him recently is named Jaemin also. And there was this one time, I e-mailed him and typed only his name in the To box and when the list popped out, I was like (with my left hand acting to indicate a long list), WHOA!!”

Jaemin look puzzled. And not long afterwards, me too as I did a double take on what I just coolly delivered pick-up line and how animated my face must've been.

Oh my god! Did I just say that???? Did I really really say that? Ewwwwwwww. That’s so kadiri! How awful! How embarrassing! If my girl friends would know about this, they could’ve yucked out on me too! God, please allow me to rewind this event.

“Yeah, I think its pretty common in Korea.” Sean said.

Oh, thank you! Thank you for that! I almost want to spread out my hands heavenward and to him for saving me in such a disgrace. Whew!

“ Is it?” Jaemin said. Oh no Jaemin, please don’t argue anymore. Mr. Muscle said it himself. Hihi.

Oh gosh, this is overly accomplishing my mission. I must go out now before I become a laughing stock. I swore to myself should there be a biography of my life, this, would not be mentioned in any articles, book or the movie adapted from it. Not even as an extra director’s cut featured on DVD. No movie star delusions here! And I'm not kidding coz it ain't funny. About to walk away now,

“So, is it your first time here in Korea?” Sean asked. OMG! OMG! Sean, in all his maangas, bad boy-ish and snobbish look, is opening up to me. It’s pretty obvious, I’m used to being unnoticed by my crushes. Control yourself.

“Yeah!” An octave higher. Sheeesh. “So, how is it being back here?”

He went on with a short tale of how his family moved to US when he was just seven. How he plans to visit his place before. “So yeah maybe we’re gonna look around.”

I was intently listening to him with only, I swear, the quickest glances at the way his shirt fit his arms. I struggled not to bite my lip. Yay!

“I see.”

“Since it's your first time here, I think you should visit Dong Dae Mun…………..” and went on recommending nice places and shopping centers. He speaks in this arrogant Johnny Depp way that makes me feel weak, I felt the ground wobbles beneath me. Really now, what is it with snobbish/arrogant type men?? Why do women fall (not in love but rather prey) to these types? Is that some kind of universal law of physics or something?

“Oh ok. Sure, thanks! I’ll take note of that.” Smiles. Hoping my cheeks aren't turning red.

I managed to get off them thankfully without further embarrassing myself or babbling again for too long or bursting into giggles. Actually, for someone like him who’s lived far too long from his real country, he’s considered to be a patriot for recommending a tourist for some nice places around. Not that I love patriotic men, but I’m enamored. Also, for a man like him to suggest shopping places for a girl like me, means he really understands what a girl is about. And really, for a guy like him to just sustain a conversation like that, it’s a super turn-on.

Gosh, I’m in trouble.
