Mid-Autumn Festival in SG

#traveltuesday

My visit in SG coincided with the Mid-autumn festival little did I know. I had set my Sunday night to meet my Japanese student Kumiko who is now working in that country. Ok, can I just say that I'm proud of her? :) Most of the Japanese students that I am teaching dreams of working in an English-speaking country and there she is. *clap clap* She told me that she'll introduce me to the Japanese language students/ friends she regularly joins with and we'll observe the lantern festival.

I had chosen to pick the name mid-autumn festival because it is known by other names in different countries - moon/ mooncake/ lantern etc. And it is was confusing then because KY - the Singaporean guy below couldn't even explain it well to me (lol!) and we had lanterns and mooncakes (durian flavor) that night.

Wikipedia did help. The mid-autumn festival is a harvest festival that is majorly celebrated in China and Vietnam and the concept focuses on gathering, thanksgiving and praying. While making and sharing mooncakes is one of the hallmark traditions of this festival (the sharing of round mooncakes among family members signify the completeness and unity of families), it is difficult to discern the original purpose of lanterns in connection with the festival. The lantern tradition is believed to be inherited though from another festival which is celebrated a month before - the Ghost Festival.

We went to Bishan Ang Mo Kio Park here where a lot of other Singaporeans were observing too. I have to say, my favorite part would have to be the floating lantern. We all wrote our wishes on each side of the lantern and visible in the photo above is the the Chinese word I wrote for my wish. Aaah, still got my Chinese writing skills learned from my primary. Haha! :D

Oh, what does that character that I wrote mean?

It's Ay. In Chinese, it means love. ♥♥♥

SG 2014

#traveltuesday

I think this was my 14th trip. I can't be sure because verifying it is just so taxing right now. Lol! I had some other plans for this trip but since it didn't push through, let's just call this a foodtrip weekend. :)

A. Observing the lantern festival and eating durian mooncake for the first time.

B. A self-reward after doing some personal shopper duties for the brother. Ugh! They sold me this at SGD 1.20. I didn't know they hike up the price in Orchard. Yes, I'm complaining the 0.20 increase. Hahaha!

C. Nothing really captures that good old hawker-style noodles. SPICES!!!

D. The bday noodles??? Lol!

E. Even the milk teas here are not the same there. Why? :P

And just this morning I discovered some peanut pancakes that are again worth-coming back for. Haha! Well, the chili crab would have to be scheduled some other time.

Ramblings Before Departure

Please be informed that I will be on business trip starting August 14 until August 20. Expect delay in responses. Wait a sec, sounds too businessy...Rewind.

Hi Friends! Silently I prayed for this and the time has come! Ü I will be on a temporary blog hiatus (for a week only, hehe). And being the blogaholic that I am, I made sure to leave something for you to be busy on while I am away (sort of an assignment, hehe): My Johari Window. The result below captured responses from my Intel fellas back then. Now I'm reaching out to you my readers and kindly assess my personality. Click on link below:

The Johari Window was invented by Joseph Luft and Harrington Ingham in the 1950s as a model for mapping personality awareness. By describing yourself from a fixed list of adjectives, then asking your friends and colleagues to describe you from the same list, a grid of overlap and difference can be built up.
You can
get your own Johari Window, or contribute to kristina cassandra's.

Meanwhile, care to see what's on my suitcase? Check this out: SILKS!! Ha ha!

My SG Fashion Statement

I didn't realize that I loaded up on 'em this year. So why not make it my fashion statement in SG? Haha!! They're perfect with or without skinny jeans PLUS!!!! they take up less space in my suitcase. ^_^ FAB!! Some of them already worn below.

Next, I don't think I can make anymore a separate entity for this. So I'll just share a photo of my so-called "farewell" party with my Intel Supah Friends: Myk and Lisa last Friday. (Sans Xtian again, he'll make up dw on my return, hmph!). We hopped from MOA to Greenbelt and finally to my home The Fort where we met a lot of beautiful people (courtesy of mah brotha) ű. This one's taken @ the dancefloor of Prince of Jaipur.

and that one on my nose this time is a big zit..Grrr!!

Lastly, I would like to greet my Mama and Papa a Happy 28th year anniversary. I wasn't able to take some pics during the dinner so I'll just share what I wore yesterday:

i look so sphisticated man as if I'm the one celebrating, haha!!

Ok, now back to the top. Don't forget my Johari Window. Here's the URL again: http://kevan.org/johari?view=kristina%20cassandra
